Brake Controller Only Works Momentarily on a 2015 Ford Escape with LED Tail Lights

Question:

Our dealer install a Drawtite brake controller, it wont work when the pedal is depressed because it only receives a momentary 12 volts and then steps down the voltage signal because of the panel that tells you have a tail or brake light out. Does this happen with Tekonsha Prodigy P-3 unit

You are likely going to run into this problem with any brake controller on your 2015 Ford Escape. A brake controller needs that 12 volt input from the brake switch so if it steps down the voltage then it is going to be an issue with any brake controller.

There is also more than one wire that can carry the brake signal at the brake switch. Make sure you are using the one that only has power when the pedal is pushed and not also when the head lights or turn signals are on.

The other option is to get the proper signal from the BCM (body control module) located near the firewall on the passenger's side. You would have to test the BCM wires as well to find a 12 volt wire that only has power when the brake pedal is applied.
