I have a solution for installing a brake controller your 2015 Toyota Highlander Hyrbid.
First let's pick out a Brake Controller for you. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, because it is a proportional controller which means it will apply the same force to the trailer brakes as in the tow vehicles brakes. It also has a customizable full display screen which provides you with a full error messages instead of codes that need to be deciphered.
Don't worry that your vehicle isn't already prewired for a brake controller, I have a solution for that too. Our # ETBC7 kit includes everything you need to install an electric trailer brake controller and 7-way connector. This wiring harness from Curt # C56217 is custom fit for your 2015 Toyota Highlander. This will provide you with a 4-pole connector at the back of your tow vehicle and will connect to the # ETBC7 to get your system tow ready. I've attached a video of the # ETBC7 being installed on a 2014 Toyota Highlander for your convenience.
We have found that on your 2015 Toyota Highlander Hybrids that once you splice into the brake pedal switch wire for the brake controller, which is the larger gauge dark green wire, it is going to throw dash codes that a Toyota dealer will have to clear. Once the codes are cleared everything will work great.
I also linked our Help article on wiring and a video of the # C56217 being installed on your vehicle for your convenience.
