Can a Brake Controller be Used to Test Trailer Brake Function
Question:
I have the hubs off to clean and inspect the brakes. This is on a 79 Avion project. Cleaned hubs, replaced shock bushings and now would like to test the brakes before I put the hubs wheels back on. Can I hook it up to my truck, spin a wheel and hit the brakes? thank you

If the trailer uses electric brakes and the truck has a brake controller then you can use the brake controller to make sure the brakes are functioning properly. There are also ways to test the magnets using a multimeter such as # PT89ZR. I have included a link to our help article that explains the testing procedures.
Please note that a spinning wheel is much easier to stop when the wheel is off the ground. So even if the brakes are not operating like they should they can still stop the wheel in this scenario. The best tests for trailer brakes are real-world scenarios where you are actually towing the trailer.
