Yes, you can install and use a 4-bike platform style carrier with the Class III trailer hitch on your 2009 Subaru Legacy. The combined weight of the carrier and the bikes needs to be under the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. The 2 Class III trailer hitches we have for your Legacy have tongue weight capacities of 400 pounds. This is more than enough.
