Does Placement Of Cables Change Weight Capacity Of Enclosed Trailer Ramp Spring
Question:
Does the 250 LB Capacity refer to the maximum ramp weight or the maximum Tension on the lift cables? I would expect that it refers to the tension on the cables since the load could vary depending on where the cables are attached to the ramp.

Expert Reply:
The 250 lb weight capacity of the Enclosed Trailer Ramp Spring, part # CB250D96SHD is for the weight of the ramp and not the tension on the springs.
The spring is designed to handle the 250 lb ramp regardless of the placement of the cables, although where you place the cable ends would vary the load and stress on the spring.
The installation instructions for this product are recommended for individuals who have experience winding torsion springs. If you have not worked with a torsion spring system before, we recommend contacting a local garage door company to install this system.
