Recommended Trailer Hitch for 2015 GMC Acadia That Allows Fascia to be Reinstalled
Question:
Hello - I am looking into purchasing a towing hitch for my 2015 GMC Acadia. Two questions: 1 I want to ensure that the plastic stock hitch cover for my Acadia will fit back over the hitch. Can you please verify with my exact model of vehicle which of the three recommended hitches will allow re-covering them with the plastic piece? 2 For towing purposes, what spec do i want to look at the pounds towinginch or the GTW? For these hitches, the Pounds Towing was 5,000 and the GTW was 7,500. For example, if I am hauling my boat which weight would I be matching that up against? Thank You!

I spoke with my contacts at Curt and Draw-Tite and they said if your Acadia has a beveled fascia door you should be able to reattach the fascia door, but if your fascia door is flat you more than likely cannot reattach it. GMC made vehicles with both kinds of fascia doors. (See the image I included of a fascia with a beveled door.)
The tongue weight rating for a hitch refers to how much vertical weight the hitch can handle right at the hitch opening. This is different from the total trailer weight the hitch is rated for.
The Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75528, which is the hitch I recommend, can tow a boat trailer that weighs a total of 5,000 lbs and can handle up to 750 lbs being applied vertically to the hitch at the hitch opening.
I attached a help article on determining tongue weight for you to check out as well.
You will want to check the towing capacities of your vehicle in the owners manual and be sure not to exceed this figure.
