Comparing Trailer Tires that Have R and D in the Size, Radial vs. Bias-Ply

Question:

My trailer has ST205 / 75 d 14, my question is, can I replace them with R14s and are R14s better for carrying loads on paved roads. In short are Rs stronger, I.E. better than ds thanks Ralph. Sorry I forgot to say the load range is B

Expert Reply:

The R and the D in a trailer tire size stand for radial and bias-ply. A radial tire flexes more than a bias tire, giving it better ground contact, traction, stability, and tread wear.

A radial tire will normally run cooler than a bias ply tire, especially when the tire is under a load. A tire that runs cooler will last longer.

For those reasons I would recommend an R tire over a D tire. The part # AM10235 should work very well for you.
