Curt Gooseneck Adapter for Fifth Wheel Rails on Short Bed Truck

Question:

I am looking at the Curt 16055 Gooseneck Hitch Rail Mount with 3 offset. I have a 2006 Ford F-250, crew cab with short bed. The instructions show the gooseneck ball closer to the cab. On a short bed such as mine, shouldnt the gooseneck ball be closer to the tailgate in order to get the extra room?

I spoke to my contact at Curt and he said that you could turn the gooseneck adapter # 16055 to have the hitch ball at the back.

We usually recommend keeping the gooseneck ball forward. Keeping the gooseneck forward keeps the attachment point in front of the rear axle and the safety chain loops behind the hitch ball. You want your chain loops behind the hitch ball in order to best protect the cab of your truck in the even that your trailer comes unhitched.
