How to Determine If Loading a Fifth Wheel Will Exceed Towing Capacity
Question:
I am considering the purchase of a new Cedar Creek Silverback 29RE, but Im concerned with pin weight. The 29RE has the following published specs 13615 lb GAWR 1615 lb. Pin Weight 9790 lb. UVW 3825 lb. CCC Those numbers dont look bad, but they dont include truck or trailer options and gear. My truck has a payload rating of 2878 lbs,...so... 26 gallons of fuel, a toolbox with a few tools, and my wife and I add about 600-700 lbs to the truck. Im not sure how this weight distributes to the front and rear axles, but this would appear to reduce my payload to approx 2250. My unknown is what would the fifth wheel pin weight be after adding options such as a second roof air, batteries, propane, hydraulic leveling system, and all the camping junk that gets stuffed into a fifth wheel trailer. In other words, How much would the 1615 pound pin weight change? It would appear that I have about 635 pounds between the factory number and a true loaded weight. First, is my thought process correct? What am I missing? I do have Timbrens installed on the truck. Help

It would be extremely difficult for me to tell you how much all of your gear would add to the pin weight of your trailer. The only way to know would be to weigh everything you plan on bringing with you and depending on where you are loading it add it to the pin weight.
The Timbrens will help prevent your truck from sagging, but they will not add additional capacity to the vehicle.
If the weight of the cargo you plan to tow ends up being less than 635 lbs you should be just fine.
