Recommended Brake Controller And Wiring For 1995 Toyota T100 Pickup Truck
Question:
Hoping to install a brake controller in my 1995 Toyota T100. Getting to brake switch will require removing parts of dash. For the brake light pick-up on the controller could I just splice into the stop light wire at the rear of the vehicle and then run it along with the blue wire for the brakes back to the controller?

Since you have no brake controller port on your T100 truck you will need to hardwire the brake controller. Your truck has separate wiring so you can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to find a wire that shows power only when the brake pedal is pressed. Many times, the wires are run along the driver side under the door threshold.
The brake controller I recommend is the Prodigy P2, part # 90885. This is our most popular because it is easy to install and operate. There are 4 wires coming from the brake controller you will need to install. If you have a 7-way connector on your truck I recommend part # C51500 to complete the installation.
The black wire should be connected to the positive terminal of the truck's battery via the 20-amp circuit breaker from the wiring kit. The white wire should be connected to the negative battery terminal. The blue wire will run back to the 7-way trailer connector and attached to the 5 o'clock pin (when looking at the face of the 7-way socket).
The red wire will be connected to the cold side of the stoplight switch if you can reach it. Using the tester you would look for the wire coming from the stoplight switch that only shows power when the brake pedal is pressed. If you cannot get to the stop light switch you will need to find the brake circuit wire as discussed above.
If your truck does not have a 7-way trailer connector, then you will need part # ETBC7. This kit includes the 7-way trailer connector and all wiring needed to install a 7-way and a brake controller. The installation instructions are attached you can take a look at. This kit does require an existing 4-way trailer connector to work. If your truck does not have any trailer wiring, then you will want to install the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector, part # 118496, along with # ETBC7 kit and the # 90885 brake controller.
