Best Way to Install Thule Passage 3 Trunk Bike Rack # TH911XT on 2010 Volvo XC70

Question:

I have a Thule trunk mount 3-bike rack. I have a Volvo XC 70 T6 awd. I have 2 questions: 1. The bottom rubber doesnt hit the top of the bumper. Can I just change the lengths of the straps to make it sit lower? I assume that this is better than trying to straighten the angle of the metal part... 2. Should I assume gat the metal clips that go into the back hood should avoid the plastic tear light that is part of the door? Do I just go above it? If so the angle seems wrong and not very secure. We have to drive 3 hours each way back and forth to NH and dont want the bikes to fall off!!! Thanks so much!!

It sounds like your Thule Passage 3 trunk bike rack # TH911XT may have been used on another vehicle and now requires adjustment for a proper fit on your 2010 Volvo XC70. The rack's bottom support bar and its foam cushion should be able to rest on the top of your rear bumper cover.

Since this rack includes the Thule patented FitDial adjustment system you'll first want to make sure the rack is set to the appropriate dial setting, which happens to be 9. This will ensure the correct overall geometry for a proper fit on your XC70. You'll place the top clips on the front edge of the hatch and the lower clips on the bottom edge. It is best to route the straps to avoid any plastic structures like spoilers or lights as these are not intended to bear weight.

Please refer to the linked instructions.
