Best Wiring Harness For 2005 Toyota Matrix Towing Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer # Y08107
Question:
I have a 2005 Toyota Matrix that I use to tow the Yakima RACKandROLL 78 trailer. This requires an electrical wiring system that can supply 2.1 amps for each turn signal/break light and 0.5 amps for each of 9 running lights for a total of 8.7 amps. Currently not all of the running lights work, the right brake lights flashes, and the left turn signal and brake light work sporadically. What is the most appropriate replacement wiring harness?

Since the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, # Y08107, can draw a total of 8.7 amps with every light bulb turned on, the best option would be to install the Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C59496, on your 2005 Toyota Matrix. This harness powers the trailer's lights directly from the tow vehicle's battery so the draw on your vehicle's taillight circuit is virtually eliminated. The maximum rating for this harness is 4.2 amps per circuit for stop/turn and 7.5 amps for taillights.
Another option would be the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C55522. This is a custom harness for your 2005 Matrix so installation is very simple. This style of harness plugs directly into existing wiring so there is no cutting or splicing or required. Although a much quicker installation, this harness has a maximum rating of 3 amps per circuit for stop/turn and 5 amps for taillights.
