Thule Roof Rack for a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport with Panoramic Roof and Sears X-Cargo Box

Question:

Hi Folks, Im trying to figure out if the Panoramic Sun Roof will present challenges with mounting a cargo carrier on the roof of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport. I have a Sears X-Cargo 20 from a Pilot I use now. It has the Thule square crossbars , so I would need the feet and fit kit to make this work. It looks to me like this will work, but I thought I was seeing something about weights/loads on the roof that need to be evaluated because of the panoramic sunroof. The Sears site states - It has a versatile design and fits most crossover vehicles, vans and SUVs with after-market or factory-installed roof racks with the ability to carry 150 lbs. or more. You can use this carrier with a load capacity of 100 lbs. to carry anything you want, right from luggage to sports equipments I typically dont put heavy items in it because its on the roof of the vehicle. The most Ive put is probably 4 pairs of snow skis with boots. What are your thoughts? Thank you -

If your 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has the flush side rails that run front to back in addition to the panoramic roof then the Thule parts you mentioned are correct. Thule calls for 47 inch bars, # TH712200, Podium foot pack # TH460R, and fit kit # THKIT4029.

With this roof rack installed the crossbar spread, which is the center to center distance from one crossbar to the other, will be 29 inches. Make sure your Sears X-Cargo box will fit a 29 inch bar spread.

You will need to consult the owners manual and/or Hyundai for the roof weight carrying capacity prior to loading. In general though having a sunroof, moon roof, or panoramic roof does reduce the capacity.
