Expert Reply:
Using a 4-Way to 7-Way adapter such as # 37185 to install # HM40975 would create extra work and parts that you would not need. What I recommend is to use harness # PK11998. It will plug into the back of connector # HM40975 and then you just hardwire the wires.
Harness # PK11998 has the following wire colors and functions:
Red - Left Turn and Stop
White - Ground
Blue - Electric Brakes
Green - Right Turn and Stop
Black - Battery
Brown - Running Lamps
Yellow - Backup Lamps
For the 12 volt circuit (black wire) you will need to splice a length of wire to it, run it under the vehicle, and up into the engine compartment where it will connect to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp circuit breaker # PK54540.
Similarly you will need additional wire for the blue brake output wire if you will be using a brake controller. For wire that you can use for the black and blue wires use # 10-2-1, sold by the foot. I have included some links that should help.
