Installing Longer Rhino Rack Vortex Aero Crossbars on Roof Rack of 2014 Mercedes-Benz ML350
Question:
2014 ML350 Mercedes with raised roof rails want to use Rhino rack with 54 inch vortex bars will they fit the truck worried that the spread distance may be too wide also accessing the hex head adjuster from below as the throat depth will be to long for the hex wrench Have to have longer bars to secure 4foot x 8foot sheet stock already have 49 inch bars usable but a need to secure to roof rails instead of bar end which is much easier

You can indeed use the 54 inch Vortex Aero crossbars if you wish. I've checked with my contact at Rhino Rack who tells me that going with the longer bars will only add 2-1/2 inches of additional overhang on each side of the existing rooftop rails on your ML350. The Torque Allen Key used to tighten the bolts is indeed long enough where the extra length of the overhanging bar isn't going to cause a problem. You'll still be able to insert the key far enough to actuate the bolt that tightens the crossbar to the roof rail.
The 54 inch crossbar is available in silver as part # RRVA137S-2 or black as part # RRVA137B-2
The rack itself has a 175 lb capacity, however you'll be limited to the capacity of your roof rails or the vehicle roof itself if its capacity is less.
