Value of Dynamically Balancing Trailer Tires and Wheels and Is This Necessary
Question:
Wife has read on internet that many tire dealers no longer have the right equipment to mount and balance trailer tires so I am concerned that we may have trouble getting the above tires mounted and balanced. Would like the added capacity of the above, but wonder if I should settle for the mounted and balanced 205 D-rated #135019, because C rated tires have consistently worn badly on both the inside and outside of the tire, despite 50PSI.

A full dynamic balance that is always required for a passenger car's tire is not essential for a trailer tire. It would clearly not be a bad thing either. The combination wheel/tire products we sell come pre-mounted from the supplier with the tire's high spot matched to the rim's low spot; this is not the same as a true dynamic balance but it is fine for a trailer tire. If you purchase a pre-mounted wheel/tire it may be possible to find a shop that has the equipment to enable a full dynamic balance but this is not absolutely required.
Moving to a higher-rated tire is a great way to increase your safety margin and reduce the potential for excessive heat build-up. Heat is a tire's worst enemy. The included link will show you all wheel/tire products in your 215/75-14 size. Or you could get the Taskmaster Provider ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire - Load Range C
Item # TTWTR21514 tire from Goodyear and a Dexstar wheel # AM20352. These could be mounted at a local shop.
The key for any trailer tire is to be inflated to the full maximum psi pressure that is noted on the tire sidewall. Trailer tires should never be run with any degree of under- or over-inflation. Either condition will result in reduced load capacity, uneven wear and the increased risk of failure due to heat build-up. Wear on both inside and outside edges of the tread typically indicates under inflation. Tire pressure should always be checked and adjusted with the tires cold.
