How to Determine Ground Clearance on a 2015 Honda Fit with Draw-Tite Hitch Before Installation
Question:
Once installed, is the Draw-Tite hitch for the 2015 Honda Fit the lowest part of the underbody of the Fit? Im worried about the hitch negatively impacting ground clearance. Do you know the exact measurement of the bottom of the hitch to the ground? Do either of the other two hitches you offer for the 2015 Honda Fit have greater ground clearance?

Expert Reply:
On Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24920 and all of the hitches for the 2015 Honda Fit the receiver will be directly below the rear fascia. So if you measure from the bottom most part of the fascia down to the ground and subtract 1-3/4 inches that will be the approximate ground clearance measurement once the hitch is installed.
On smaller vehicles that are low to the ground to start with, adding a trailer hitch usually reduces ground clearance so you have to keep that in mind when choosing accessories. The hitch will likely be the lowest part on the vehicle.
If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. I recommend the Swagman Trailhead, # S63360. It is Class I compatible but the rise in the shank will help with the ground clearance issue.
