We do not have a trailer hitch that is compatible with the 1972 Volkswagen Bus. But it is possible that you can use the Class IV Weld-On Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 41990. With this hitch you could use any of our bike racks that are compatible with 2 x 2 inch receivers (see link).
Part # 41990 is a weld on application. You would need to measure the width of your bus frame and consult a qualified welder to determine if the frame on your bus is strong enough to weld the hitch to. He will also need to determine if the frame configuration will accept the hitch in the proper orientation for towing.
Along with the Weld-On Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch you may need a set of weld on brackets to attach the hitch to your frame. There are two different sizes available, the 16 inch Weld-on Bracket Kit, # 4916, and the 7 inch Weld-on Bracket Kit, # 4907.
Dimensions of the Class IV Weld-On Hitch are 44 1/2 inches in length, main tube size is 3 inches square, and there is 7-1/2 inches from the back of the hitch to the front of the receiver.
