Will Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Carrier Fit a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and 2006 Dodge Ram

Question:

Hello. I am wondering if this rack will fit my vehicles? I have a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Sahara Unlimited with a 2 inch hitch receiver class 3. My concern is will the rack clear the rear mounted spare tire on the back door. Will the rack still hold 2 bikes and be fully functional? The other vehicle is a 2006 Dodge Ram Laramie 4x4 2500 with extended cab short box. There is a class 3 with a 2 inch receiver on the front as well as the rear. I will at times need to carry bikes on front as I have a 8 foot truck camper. I am thinking that shank rise will be adequate clearance and the tilt in feature would be nice on the front when no bikes on rack. Is there another rack I should be looking at to handle my vehicles unique needs? Your expert opinion and advise would be appreciated.

Your questions and concerns are very common and I will be happy to help! First, to determine if the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HR1450Z will clear the spare tire on your 2010 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited you will need to take a measurement. Measure from the center of the hitch pin hole straight back to the distance needed to clear the spare tire.

If this distance is less than 8-1/2 inches then the carrier will fit. I know on some of the hitches we have installed on Wrangler Unlimited models like yours the distance was greater that 8-1/2 inches so the rack would not work. There is a much greater chance of it fitting if you have the stock spare tire size.

On this rack and similar ones it is the pivot bracket that is the closest part of the rack and that is what can cause the interference issues on the Jeep.

A carrier such as # S64670 might work better if you have the stock spare. Take a look at the video I have linked showing this carrier on a 2014 Wrangler Unlimited.
