Tailgate on 2013 Ford F-150 Makes Contact with A-Frame Electric Trailer Jack

Question:

The travel trailer is a 2015, 21foot Mini-Lite pulled by a 2013 F-150 long wheelbase with tow package. When hitched the top of the tailgate comes to rest on the switches when the tailgate is lowered. Want to prevent damage to the jack switches and housing. Is there some type of device which covers the jack housing? Presently I use a rolled up towel. Thanks

Stromberg Carlson has vinyl cover # JET-01 you could use for trailer jack # LC285318. But You might be better off using a longer ball mount so that the trailer is a little further away from the truck. This would eliminate contact between the tailgate that the jack.

The longest ball mount we have, # EA40 measures 14-5/8 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the ball hole. But it is only rated for 8,000 pounds.

Ball mount # BM20 measures 13-1/4 inches and is rated up to 10,000 pounds. And ball mount # 4285 is 12 inches long and rated for 12,000 pounds. Compare these lengths to the length of the ball mount you are using now to determine if any of them will work.

And another option is to use a 5th wheel tailgate on your 2013 Ford F-150, # VG-04-100. The cut out is right in the middle, which should be the area that interferes with the jack, eliminating that contact.
