Recommended Components Needed To Add Axles And Brakes To Tandem Trailer
Question:
Hi There, Im interested in the most cost effective option for springs, axle, brakes, wheels and tires for a tandem trailer with 2 3500lb axles. Ideally the springs would be set at 72inch apart. Please provide pricing for only having brakes on one axle. Thanks

The first thing to consider is what the trailer is to be used for. If it is a boat trailer then electric brakes would not be the way to go, as water and electric do not work well together. I will make recommendations with the options you listed you want.
Our 3,500 lb axles have the spring seats at 74 inches. If it is not a boat trailer the axle I recommend is the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes, part # 35545E-ST-89. This axle measures 89 inches and includes the Includes electric brake assemblies, hubs, drums, bearings, races, seals, and mounting hardware, and spindles. lubrication.
For the other axle I recommend part # 35545I-ST-89. This is the same axle as the axle with brakes I recommended but has idler hubs with no brakes as you requested. These axles have a 5 on 4-1/2 bolt pattern.
If you are looking for a system that will work for a boat trailer, let me know and I can make some recommendations that will work for you.
The leaf springs I recommend for your tandem trailer are Redline 4-Leaf Double-Eye Spring, part # e54SR. These springs measure 25-1/8 inches long x 1-3/4 inches wide and are designed for use with 3,500-lb trailer axles.
The trailer hanger kit for tandem axles I recommend is part # APT3. The mounting kit I recommend for each axle is part # APUBR-1.
For wheels and tires I recommend the Taskmaster ST215/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14 Inch White Spoke Wheel, part # AM32181. This load range C tire has a weight capacity of 1,870 lbs at 50 psi rating. We also offer the part # AM32161 tire/wheel combo by Karrier. This tire has a maximum load capacity of 2,200 lbs at 75 psi.
You will need the wiring for the brakes if you choose the electric brake system for your trailer. I recommend the 7-Pole Connector, part # H20043.
You will also need a brake controller and wiring for your towing vehicle. If you want to let me know the year, make, and model of the vehicle you are towing this trailer with I will be happy to make some recommendations that will work for you.
I have attached product review and installation videos and also some helpful articles you can check out. The pricing for all of our products is shown on the product page of our website.
