Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2006 Saturn Ion Behind a Motor Home
Question:
Im towing a 2006 Saturn Ion, manual transmission. What parts do I need for this?

Expert Reply:
To flat tow your 2006 Saturn Ion you will need base plates, a tow bar, safety cables, lighting, and supplemental braking.
For base plates you can use # DM9518151.
Next, for a compatible tow bar, I recommend the Commander II, # DM9511012. This tow bar comes with safety cables and is rated for 6,000 pounds.
For lighting you could use a simple magnetic kit such as # RM-2120. Or for a more permanent solution you can use Roadmaster harness # RM-154. In either case you will need to pull a fuse to flat tow the vehicle (consult owners manual to confirm).
And finally, most states now require supplemental braking on the vehicle being flat towed. One of the preferred systems for our installers is the SMI Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional system, # SM99251. It will apply the vehicle brakes in proportion to how much the tow vehicle is braking. This is the safest way to stop and it reduces wear and tear on both vehicles.
