Adding Electric over Hydraulic Brakes to Boat Trailer
Question:
I have a 1992 Four Winns trailer with a 26foot cruiser on it. I dont know too much about the trailer as far as what is needed to convert it to a electric over hydraulic disc system. the boat, motor and trailer weigh in at 7,400lbs, I want to ensure I have what i need to deal with 10K load simply because I dont want to push limits, overkill is better than barely making the cut. Right now as the trailer sits, its a tandem axle with 6 lug drums, it has a surge-o-matic model 6 actuator, the master cylinder is toast, the lines are barren and I want to get everything I need from the collar to back to the discs including lines, connectors, bearings etc.. Is there a kit like the titan and brake rite sd but with 6 lug discs?

The best system we have for your situation would be a disc brake kit with an electric over hydraulic actuator, like the Cargo Towing Solutions HydraStar Electric-Hydraulic Actuator w/ Line Kit for Disc Brakes, # CAR-HBA16-2. To install this system you would need a disc brake kit. To determine the correct kit your trailer bearings and hub pattern will need to be known. I would be glad to help put together a system for you if you can send me some information.
First you will need to determine what spindle you have on your trailer so that you can match the correct rotor/hubs to fit them. You will need to pull the hubs off of your trailer and get the bearing numbers (inner and outer). I have included a picture that shows the location of the bearing numbers. Next you will need to know is the bolt pattern of your hubs. This is so you get a hub that is compatible with your wheels. I attached an FAQ article on determining bolt pattern.
Check out the help article I attached that covers everything needed to add disc brakes to a trailer as well.
