Recommended Brake Controller For 2015 Honda Odyssey

Question:

I like the compact size of this brake controller, but wonder if it is the best choice for my new vehicle - a 2015 Honda Odyssey EX-L with installed Honda hitch and 4 pin wiring. I am planning to install a dual 4 and 7 pin plug. I intend to haul a 2,600 lbs single axle 16 foot camper trailer around much of the U.S. Thanks. P.S. Perhaps you can even suggest a dual 4/7 pin plug...

It sounds like you have a great plan for travel with your new 2015 Honda Odyssey.

The draw-Tite Activator lV Brake Controller, part # 5504 that you referenced is a time-delayed brake controller that uses a preset intensity for applying the brakes.

To be honest, I would recommend a proportional brake controller like the Tekonsha Primus IQ, part # TK90160. This applies the brakes on your camper in direct proportion to the amount of intensity you apply to the brake pedal in your towing vehicle. This is for electric brakes only.

For a 4-way and 7-way connector at the back of your Odyssey I recommend the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller, part # ETBC7. This plugs into your 4-way connector and with some additional wiring as described in the helpful article I have linked will give you a 4-way and a 7-way connector. The ETBC7 also comes with the mounting bracket and a wiring circuit tester included.
I have attached a drawing that shows how the wiring should be run when installing a brake controller.

When working with electrical connectors I recommend using dielectric grease like part # 11755. This keeps dirt and moisture out of the electrical connections and helps prevent corrosion.
