How to Install a Brake Controller in a 2007 Toyota RAV4 with Factory 7-Way
Question:
HI, I have a fully wired 7 pin plug on my 2007 RAV4. For installation of the Primus IQ you recommend to run this additional cable and install a Circuit breaker. I am assuming that the existing loom already caters for this with one exception that the wiring runs through the 30A fuse and not a Circuit breaker. I understand the need for the circuit breaker but am curious if I can just fit this inline with the fuse? I have also watched the toyota highlander video and it connected direct into the existing loom with out this additional wiring. Greatly appreciate your assistance with clearing this up for me. Thanks in advance

If you have a fully wired 7-way at the rear of your 2007 Toyota RAV4 and you don't currently have a brake controller installed in the vehicle the only circuit that will need to be run will be the brake output circuit of the brake controller to the 7-way.
A fuse will work just as fine as a circuit breaker for either the brake controller circuit or the 12 volt accessory circuit. Biggest difference will be that you will have to actually swap out a new fuse in the fuse holder in the event of a short instead of being able to just let the breaker reset itself.
To install the brake controller all you really need is the part # 5506 to provide power and ground for the brake controller. This will provide you with a double bonded wire that will get run from the brake controller to the battery. It also includes a circuit breaker.
The blue wire of the brake controller will need to get run back to the 7-way of the vehicle (brake output). You will want 10 gauge wire like the part # 10-1-1 sold by the foot for this.
The red wire of the controller will need to tap into the brake light switch circuit of your brake pedal. Using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 you will need to test the wires of the brake pedal switch to determine which circuit sees 12 volts when the brakes are applied and none when released.
