Parts Needed to Adapt 4 Way Pin Connector to 7 Way on 2013 Honda Odyssey
Question:
Hi, I currently have a flat 4 pin connector on my 2013 Honda Odyssey and need to hook it to my trailer with a 7 pin flat female connector. I think 30717 would work for me but Im not sure what to do with the other 3 wires. I dont have a brake controller. Can I just not attach those 4 wires including the extra ground ? Or is there another product that you think would work better for me ? Thanks!

Yes, you can use the Tow Ready Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole Vehicle End Trailer Connector, # 30717, to add a 7 Way connection to the back of your 2013 Honda Odyssey. After plugging in the 4 way connector you will have three remaining wires and a white ground wire. You will to attach the ground to a clean, dirt-free part of the vehicle frame.
The black wire would be used to connect to the battery for 12 volt power. You connect it with a fuse or an in-line breaker like # # 9510. The yellow wire would be an auxiliary wire for 12 volt power, reverse lights or reverse lockout for trailer brakes. The blue wire would be used to connect to an output wire for brake controller.
If the features of these wires are not required you can simply tie them up out of the way. I have included a video of part # 30717 and a typical installation for you to check out.
We also have a couple different mounting brackets you could use, like part # 18138 or part # PK12711U, to mount the adapter. You can attach these to the bumper or part of the vehicle.
