How Much Clearance is Required between Truck Cab and Trailer to Safely Make 90 Degree Turn
Question:
I have a companion non slider that measures 39 inches from coupler to cab arms farthest back. I have pulled with this for 10 months with no issues, except for tight turns. I just purchased the slider version of the companion and it sits 35 inches from coupler to cab arms in farthest back position. I have not pulled with this yet but am afraid to because of the closer cab distance almost have a 90 degree turn out of driveway onto road. Is there a minimum spec for distance between cab and trailer? Should I actually be worried?

To safely execute a 90 degree turn you want at least 4 inches of clearance between the truck cab and trailer. The head of the # BWRVK3400-5W is adjustable from front to back so you may be able to adjust it back a little bit for better clearance while pulling out of your driveway. Otherwise you will need to slide the hitch back in the bed of your truck to make the turn.
The reason for needing 4 inches is because if the turn your making has an elevation change the added clearance will help prevent contact.
