Is Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # CAB-C5G Hard on Trailer Frames

Question:

Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter - 12inch to 16inch Tall - 20,000 lbs. I have a 2007 Dodge 3500 long bed dually that has a removable ball hitch in the bed that I use to tow my horse trailer. I have a reese hitch for my 36 foot challenger 5th wheel that weighs about 13000 lbs. I had the reese hitch in my 454 chevy dually and changed over to a fifth wheel removable ball gooseneck hitch due to the hassle of constantly removind my reese hitch when using the truck to haul lumber and etc. I like the convert a ball hitch and the reviews are very positive although your expert advise comments are that these may be hard on my truck frame? which concerns me. How much of an issue is that and will the convert a ball 5th wheel to gooseneck ball adapter work with my 2007 3500 dodge dually. Read a lot of revies and only see a 2014 dodge dually referenced. Thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:

Using a 5th wheel to Gooseneck adapter, like the Convert-A-Ball Multi-Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter, # CAB-C5G, can apply added stress to the trailer frame. We have yet to hear of someone having an issue with the frame of their trailer while using an adapter like this, but we do try to inform potential customers of this disclaimer. You can contact the manufacturer of your trailer and ask them if using an adapter like this is OK to be certain.

If the trailer has an extended pin box or requires additional support, reinforcement of the trailer frame will be required and should be performed by a qualified professional welder. I have included a link to a video review of the adapter.
