Availability of a Light-Duty Hand Winch for Use in a Cargo Application

Question:

Do you have a smaller winch than the FT6000301? I have a cargo strapping application. I want to utilize the crank handle design. Thanks

We do offer lower capacity hand winches that are like the 600-lb-rated Fulton Single Speed Winch FT6000301 that you referenced. Dutton-Lainson offers their single-speed hand winch # DL16003 that includes a 12-foot strap with hook, a handle, and a Tuffplate zinc finish for protection from corrosion. This winch is rated for 400-lbs. An article on winches is linked for reference.

If your application is to secure cargo, you will be better served by a few sets of ratcheting tie down straps, rather than a winch. A winch is intended for lifting but not for holding a load in place. For that purpose a better option is a cargo control item such as the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps with Push Button Releases, part # EM34416. Erickson also offers a lighter-duty 4-piece set of ratcheting tie downs, part # EM31352.

When selecting cargo straps like these you will want to be sure that you choose a product whose working load limit (WLL) is high enough for the weight of your cargo. (WLL is 1/3 of a product's breaking strength; never exceed an item's WLL.) The straps in set # EM31352 each have a 500-lb working load limit.

The linked video illustrates the features and use of this cost-effective cargo strap set. I also included a link to our main page for ratcheting straps.
