Short To Battery Notification on a Tekonsha P3 in Heavy Rain/Carwash Conditions

my p3 has a warning of short to battery no brakes. it flashes this only in moisture situations i have noticed car wash or heavy rain without a trailer plugged in and as soon as i plug a trailer in it works fine any ideas why

It sounds like water is getting in somewhere creating a short. Since it happens when the trailer is not connected, I would check the cover for the 7-Way and see it closes all the way. If not, that is probably what is letting the water in.
You can also check the harness and connectors behind the 7-Way to see if they are cracked or chipped. If so, clean them and make sure you use some dielectric grease, like part # 11755, in the connectors to help keep water out.
