Recommended Flat-Towing Components For 2011 Toyota 4Runner

Question:

I was wanting to purchase the front mount 2in receiver hitch for my 2011 toyota 4 runner. I was wanting to have it for a winch plate and also for towing. I not sure what would be the best for towing, either a toe ring or something better you guys would recommend. I had plans on towing this 4 runner down the road behind another vehicle. I wasn.t sure what to put in the front hitch of 4runner to pull it behind my diesel truck.

If your 2011 Toyota 4Runner is not the Trail Edition, I recommend the Curt Front Mount Trailer Hitch, part # C31054.

This hitch is an easy bolt-on installation and requires no welding. It has a 2 inch receiver opening and would work well for a front mount winch as you described. I have attached a link to an installation video for this hitch on a 4Runner you can check out.

If your 4Runner is the Trail Edition then the front mount hitch you will want is part # 31367.

Since you said you want to use the hitch for a winch I recommend the Curt Electric winch Mount, part # C31010. For ease of handling we also have winch mount handles, part # C31005. Attaching these will make it easier to install and remove the winch.

I have also attached a link to our product page of winches we offer. You can use the filters to find a winch that best suits your needs.

You also mentioned towing with the hitch. The front-mount hitch would allow you to be able to maneuver a trailer without having to look out the back of your 4Runner. I recommend a ball mount like part # C45010. it has a 3/4 inch rise or 2 inch drop. For a 2 inch trailer ball I recommend part # 63845 and for a 1-7/8 inch ball I recommend part # 19260. For added security I recommend a hitch pin lock like part # e98880. This lock has a 5/8 diameter pin, is chrome plated, and has a covered key slot that helps prevent corrosion.

You cannot use a front-mount hitch to flat-tow your 4Runner. If you intend to flat-tow your vehicle you will need to remove the front-mount hitch as it will interfere with the flat-towing equipment.

To flat-tow your 4Runner you will need 5 things. Base plates for the towed vehicle, a tow-bar to attach to your towing vehicle, safety cables, lighting for the vehicle being towed, and most states now require a supplemental brake system when flat towing.

The base plates I recommend are part # 1185-1. For safety cables I recommend part # RM-643. The tow bar I recommend is part # RM-502.

For lighting I recommend part # MT70097.

For a supplemental brake system I recommend the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, part # RM-9400.
