Rear Suspension Support

A heavy rear load can cause sag as your factory suspension compresses under the weight of the load. This means that the rear axle is trying to support not only the extra load but also the weight of your vehicle. And because there is less weight on your front axle, your front tires make less contact with the road, which causes problems with traction, steering, and braking. SumoSprings upgrade your vehicle's factory suspension to level your vehicle, improve driving performance, and keep your ride comfortable.

Installed spring when it is not compressed

SumoSprings provide progressive load control - the more you load them, the stiffer they become. With a lighter load, the springs will compress easily for soft engagement and a less bumpy ride. The closed-cell urethane material allows for smooth contact between the springs and your vehicle. And the springs act like a shock absorber to dampen road vibration.

Installed spring when it is compressed

The springs can also compress by as much as 80 percent to support a heavy rear load and to help your factory suspension bear up under the load. This evens out the weight, which levels your vehicle and ensures that your front tires are making better contact with the road. A level ride means that you have improved driving control, ensures safe headlight aim, and helps to minimize sway. The springs also support your factory suspension, which helps prevent sagging and reduces bottoming out.

The springs work independently from one another to support each side of your vehicle. This action helps to reduce body roll when you make a sharp turn. This also helps compensate for an off-center load.

Durable, Custom-Fit Springs

These microcellular urethane springs are tough. They resist abrasion, oil, salt, and UV rays that can more quickly wear out other springs, and they perform well in temperatures ranging from -25 F to 200 F (-33 C to 93 C).

SumoSprings compress vertically with minimum expansion to the sides, so they won't be damaged by nearby mechanical parts and they fit safely into tighter spots. And unlike air springs, SumoSprings require no maintenance or adjustment.

The helper springs are custom designed to fit your vehicle, and they install easily - no drilling required.

Very straight forward installation. Simple. very noticeable difference under load. Towing with the gooseneck also an improvement, looking forward to the longer road trip test. So far pleased with the product and results

2010 Ford F-150

So far so good. Easy install and the ride without the spacer is great. Will update after towing and heavy load use.

by:

They work great. Easy to install myself. Would definitely recommend.

by:

This installation was on a 2014 F-150. I tow a Winnebago Micro-Mini 5th wheel with a hitch weight of 1,060 lbs.
Frame to axle stock was 7.5 inches. The Sumo springs without the spacer lifted my
PU 0.5 inches. The Sumo springs are always in contact with the axle so my ride has greatly changed. As I am an outdoorsman and travel on a lot of gravel roads fishing and hunting, I will have to remove the Sumo springs when I am not using the trailer as the ride is totally unbearable on any unpaved road.
As for using the Sumo springs with the 5th wheel, when loaded the springs compress 0.5 inches to a axle to frame distance of 7.5 inches (ie stock) The ride with the camper is very stable and there is no excessive bounce. The springs perform very well when loaded.
In my research of this product it is advertised that there is a 1 inch gap between the sumo spring and the frame to allow for a comfortable ride. That is not true and is the reason for my poor review.

by:

This helped so much with bounce. Install was very easy on my 2018 F150 did not even need to remove the tires even with the extra 1 inch spacer. Thing to remember when you install them you put the bolt in the right hole. If you dont it will not sit right on your axle when you put weight on it. After my long trip with TT my back end did not bounce like crazy. My tuck does not have max tow so suspension is not tight. This made it like i had max tow package. After my trip I removed 1 bolt and removed the 1 inch spacer and now back to normal ride. You can leave spacer on it will make ride a little stiffer. But wife did not like that. I don't mind removing 1 bolt and add/remove spacers when needed. Also no bag to pop or leaks. People that post pics or say did not site right. Only 2 things can cause that. 1. Put into wrong bolt hole when installing. 2. Too much weight. You can't go wrong with them. They do what they said they do.

by:

Went from air springs to these and much more happier with the ride and simplicity of these over the air bags.

Just what I needed

Excellent addition to the truck and easy to install. Greatly reduces squat when pulling the RV and eliminates rear end hop when going over bumps with no load.

2015 Ford F-150

These things are awesome! Exactly what I was looking for to stop the sagg from towing my camper with my 2015 f-150

Still as it was when installed. Does what its supposed to do. Only partially negative affect is the ride when using this truck for my daily communtes on Michigan terrible condition roads, makes for an extra firm bounce.

by:

I installed these last year after pulling an enclosed 12x7 cargo trailer 400 miles. The vehicle seemed soft in the rear.
I didn't need to use it for towing till a couple weeks ago when I pulled a car trailer and car 600 miles and oh what a difference. No squat, no blinding oncoming traffic no soft feeling. Just the way it should be. I left the spacer out on the install so it would ride normal unless loaded. I would recommend this product.

This product is great for a suspension upgrade for hauling loads on a soft spring ttuck. The fx4s rear springs are made for a soft ride. The Sumo spring turn it into a real truck and it can pull a trailer without bouncing around. Its more in between a 150 and a 250 now. Im glad I did this.

by:
2015 Ford F-150

I have a slide in camper on my F-150 and it caused a little sagging and some swaying in turns. The Sumo Springs do everything they say they will do for your truck. Installation took about 30 mins, the instructions were super easy to follow, 2 sockets (1-13 mm and 1-15mm and one 15 mm box wrench . After installation I could tell the difference in the handling of my truck immediately, less side to side sway and about 3 inches of lift at the rear.
Definitely worth the time and money. I would recommend these to every truck owner who hauls either a camper or a heavy load.

A follow up on the sumo springs after a year of use they are a perfect solution for your trucks suspension. They greatly reduce any body sway and help level the truck I still highly recommend these springs for anyone with a truck that is hauling campers.

The product was easy to install. The Tools needed list needs to be updated. Removing bolt is 13mm. Installing new bolts are 15mm. Also the nuts that are tack welded inside the frame will break loose if any rust or debris are on the threads. Back up wrench is near impossible if to fit if the size is not known. End up cutting the old bolt because of this. That’s not your products fault. That’s Fords issue. With the 1” spacers provided it raise my F150 4 1/2”. Stiffened the ride up. Ready to haul my 5th wheel. NICE

The Sumo Springs are still performing well. I Hauled our 29.5 5th Wheel from Upstate NY TO Florida through a major 4 State nor’easter. We have also bought a 16’ cargo trailer and hauled it to it’s full weight capacitie. The truck is still sitting high.

by:

This solved the problem of the my 2016 F150 sagging when I have my work trailer hooked up. They lifted the rear of my truck up 2 3/8 inch from what it was. Funny thing is, its only 3/4 inch from the factory height.

Now I will say I can tell a difference in the ride being alot stiffer when the trailer is connected. The difference when not using the trailer is just a little more stiff. I did use the spacers.

I also complained to the staff at etrailer because of the stupid shipping times. I originally purchased the springs on 8/27/21 and according to the website, I was supposed to receive them by 8/31/21. Well that didn't happen. I even called and complained, but the blame was on the USPS. I didn't receive them until 9/7/21. The arrival date was the same on the free shipping as with the paid shipping according to the website, but they are wrong about that.

I apologize about the slow wait for your items. I do show that it shipped on 827 and it did go US mail. If you need your item faster next time, I would not go with the free shipping.

by:

Wanted to level out while towing our travel trailer and these did exactly that. They also provided a less bouncy and controlled feel to the truck. Install was easy with provided directions.

by:

No issues. Always have been happy with etrailer.

John

10/14/2022

Still no issues. They work as advertised. I am happy I installed them.

by:

I installed these on a 2017 Ford F-150 SuperCab to stop the initial rear-end sag common with towing a trailer. These pickup trucks have springs regulated for a very smooth ride WHILE EMPTY, as most PU's are used as a personal sports car. The SSR product removes the rear sag, without causing a harsh ride.

Easy to install... no maintenance needed... no air-bags to constantly leak. I had already installed Hellwig after-market sway bars on the rear, and also replace the puny Ford OEM front sway bar with a Hellwig product. Together with the Sumo product, there is NO side-sway at all.

This product provides extra support, without detriment to the ride comfort.

by:
2013 Ford F-150

This was probally the single best improvement we did to our 2018 Coleman Light trailer. The have helped reduce the ping pong effect, reduced trailer sway when being passed by semis on the road and made the trailer easier to pull in general.

by:

They definitely help with towing our travel trailer!!
Keeps the truck level with minimal bounce. They do wiggle side to side on bouncy bridges/roads.
Overall happy with the purchase.
Easy to install.

by:
2019 Ford F-150

One year later...still very happy with the Sumo Springs on the F150. I installed with 1" axle clearance so there is absolutely no change to stock ride when unloaded. When I hitch up the trailer, the Sumo Springs help reduce squat and control the ride. Truck feels more stable when towing the camper.

by:
2017 Ford F-150

1 year review of Sumo springs on 2017 Ford F150. Install was very easy, initially used the 1" spacer, but ride without trailer was too rough. Removed the spacer and ride was almost as smooth as truck was originally. The springs definitely helped the ride and control when I attached my travel trailer. I would recommend the springs to anyone who pulls a trailer or carries heavy loads.

by:

Massive improvement to my 2018 Max Tow package F-150s towing stability with a 7500lb GVW travel trailer. Does not eliminate chucking and such, but dampens all of the undesirable movements to a negligible level. Towed over 5000 miles with Sumo Springs front and rear, and would not tow without them.

by:
2010 Ford F-150

Installed on my 2010 F150 XLT to help with sag when pulling our camper. Very easy to install, even with my tires on. Used my large floor jack and raised the frame to create more room. To help with the removal of my stock jounce bumpers, I sprayed PB Blaster on the end of the bolt-located in the opening in the frame. Sorry, I didn't take any pics on the project.

by:

Shipped and arrived quickly. Easy to install in my driveway without a lift in led than an hour. Did not need to use the included spacers. Have not had a heavy load on yet, so I can't comment on how well they work.

Eric O.

9/4/2020

They work well. Definitely less sag with a trailer attached.

by:
2011 Ford F-150

Very easy to install. Normal ride unless loaded and ride is smooth, even then. Helps with porpoising when hauling a heavy tongue weight.

Pulling my camper is no longer a “ white knuckle “ experience. These are a no brained if you have a 12 ton pickup and carry heavier loads.

Ford F-150

Ordering from Etrailer was great. Fantastic customer service and fast shipping. The Sumo Springs installed very easily in less than an hour. The additional suspension support feels like it is going to help greatly while pulling my 28' 6500# travel trailer with my F150. It has a bit stiffer ride while not towing but I'd say it is minimal. I think this is going to work well thank you Etrailer and thank you Emily in customer service!

  • Recommended Suspension Enhancement for 2017 Ford F-150 with 3 of Sag When Towing 5th Wheel
It sounds like you're getting quite a bit of squat when you're towing, which is not uncommon and easily corrected with a suspension enhancement. I recommend using the Sumo Springs Solo Custom Helper Springs # SSR-117-47 (4wd truck) or # SSR-116-47 (2wd), which will do a great job of helping correct sag and sway when your 5th wheel is connected. I also really like that these don't affect your unloaded ride quality because they're progressively loading, so they're only going to engage when...

For all out support the Timbrens part # TFR1504E are the best option for your 2019 Ford F-150, but they have a reputation for being a bit harsh when unloaded.
