Video Transcript for SeaSucker Ridge Ready Monkey Bars Roof Rack Installation - 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Hi everyone, it's Evangeline here at etrailer and today we have the SeaSucker Ridge Ready Monkey Bar Roof Rack. So we're gonna take a look at how they fit on our 2000 Jeep Wrangler, we'll also talk about how they fit for your Jeeps in general. If you wanna carry around a lot of fun accessories like kayaks or roof boxes or roof baskets on your Jeep, you have a lot of options too. But those options have varying degrees of how difficult it is to install or how long it would take or how much drilling there would be involved. With the SeaSucker Ridge Ready Monkey Bar Roof Rack, this uses oval vacuum cups to adhere to your Jeep's hard top. That way, even if you have ridges on your roof, it will fit between those ridges and create a solid surface for those accessories.

So I have installed a bunch of those different racks on a bunch of different Jeeps. The popular one is the gutter style mount roof rack, and that has its pros and cons. Downside to this specific one is the gutter does not grow all the way around so they have to get something like the Ridge Ready Crossbar. But if you are able to have a gutter mount roof rack, you might have more weight capacity as well as more versatility when it comes to height and shape of the bar. With a SeaSucker, you have 150 pounds weight capacity, and you have a round crossbar.

So you have to double check your accessories to make sure they work with round bars. For measurements, your front crossbar's gonna be a little bit taller than your rear crossbar. So for the height, we're gonna go first from the top of the roof to the bottom of the crossbar, it's 3-3/4". That's how much space you have for clamps or accessories that go around. And then the height added to the top of the roof is gonna be 5-1/4", and that's gonna be where your cargo sits.

So if you're carrying around let's say skis with extra tall bindings, you'll make sure there's enough clearance so you're not scratching up your roof. This roof rack looks especially good on this black Jeep though and you have a aluminum base for the bars, but you also have this black powder coat finish, and it's pretty high quality finish, goes all around and creates a corrosion resistance. So if you're leaving this up there in the rain, the wind, the snow, everything is corrosion resistant but all you need to check are the vacuum cups to make sure they're always vacuumed. I've left these on for weeks at a time on my car, so every morning I would just check the plungers and make sure you can't see the orange indicator sign. So if there is a little bit of a leak, or if you actually hit this T-tab like that, you can see the orange and all you need to do is press down and depress the plunger.

This is actually designed with Jeep ridges in mind, so you need to have at least 3-1/4" of width inside your ridges for this to work. If you are leaving this on your Jeep for an extended period of time though, I would consider some locking options. So SeaSucker does have window as well as trunk mounted cable locks. Here, it wouldn't be a good idea because you have the guard on your window. Also, that's metal placed directly on the window. I use a Thule Locking Straps. I wrap them around the bars at night and just throw the rest inside of my door, close the door on it, and that gives me a low extra peace of mind. Now, getting this onto your Jeep is super fast. Once it's all set up the first time, it takes about two minutes to get it off of your wall and onto the car. So let's take a look at that first setup process. When installing this on your Jeep, now you have to set it up the first time with getting measurements and this is a 60 inch long bars, but the measurement we're using will be the same for the 48 inch long bars. I have it set to about 45-1/4" apart for the front and the rear. If it helps too, you can put it on your roof before tightening down the pumps, but I've already secured them, so all they do is move side to side and not moving on the bar. With that in mind, let's go grab our first crossbar and put it on a roof Pick and choose your crossbar spread. I like to put it at around 28 inches as a good average for accessories. It is up to what you're carrying around, is it a kayak or a roof box or a bike rack. And once your placement is confirmed, you're ready to secure it. So I like to wipe off the surface as well as underneath the mount so it's free of debris and dirt. You can also add a little bit of water if you need a little bit of extra suction. So take off the caps of all of those cups. Securing the vacuum is a little trickier with this oval design though, so you're gonna have to seal all around the vacuum. If you have enough water, you can push down and get that good seal or you may have to use like all of your hands to push down on the front and the sides as you depress the plunger. Keep pressing until there's no more orange to be seen. So after all that, just wipe off the excess water if you want or just let that dry. You can double check your roof rack to make sure it's secured, but that's it if you're able to set up your monkey bars. So if you're looking for a quick and easy way to carry around all those fun accessories, this is gonna be a great option for you. But if you're looking to carry a roof rack every day, every year, I recommend taking a look at our custom fit options here at etrailer for your car, just because those will give you more of a weight capacity and they would last longer without having to double check the vacuum cups. You can find them here on our fit guide. But the SeaSuckers are awesome for your Jeep with those ridges. Hopefully this video helped you out with seeing if it'll work for your car and work for your adventures. And that right there was a look at the SeaSucker Ridge Ready Monkey Bars and we saw it here on a 2000 Jeep Wrangler.

Easy fit on Tesla Model X. Our fitment is for carrying kayaks and the occasional roof box. I would give these 5 stars if SeaSucker had the option to pivot the front mounts 90 degrees to decrease a sloping roof angle. The front mount placement is critical on a Model X as the front glass roof slope/curve means you'll definitely need to moisten the cups and press down firmly while suctioning to get a good fit. Another recommendation is to let the racks sit for 2-3 hours and then check the plungers to see if any have released air (clean and reposition if they have). Repeat the same dry fitment with your cargo attached.

I've waited until I had a chance to install it and test it on my 2017 Mustang before wrote this. Fits perfect and ruggedly built. I thought we would never be able to transport two kayaks but they proved me wrong. Love these Monkey Bars.

Great way to add a roof rack to your vehicle. Quality build and very easy on/off, works great

by:

Still have them on my car they've been a real asset glad I got it

by:

I had actually used the bicycle version of the seasucker. My prior car was a Lotus Evora and the seasucker worked extremely well. This roof rack is to hold my Racing Scull Shell on my Porsche Cayman. Porsche does not offer a roof rack for this model anymore and as I thought, the Seasucker will fit the bill. Weird looking to see an almost 30' Scull on top of a car almost half the length, but literally something you don't see every day. I just check the suction every time I refuel, but other than that it does the job!!!!

These SeaSucker Monkey Bars are the greatest! I haul ladders and Kayaks like nobody's business! AND, I'm hauling all this on my 2005 Gran Marquis at over 70 miles an hour at some times!! Great investment. I just wish there was a better way of locking them to my car. I'll usually just pull them off and put them in the trunk. J.S.

Fell off the car the first time I used them. Fortunately I wasn't carrying anything, but the bar sustained significant damage and is now unusable. Contacted the company for a replacement, which they said they would provide, but still haven't seen it after a year.

by:

Very good option for my car. Rack is very stable under the weight of my Kayak

by:

Today I installed my new SeaSucker Monkey Bars and 2 sets of Curt J-Style folding kayak carriers on my 2020 Hyundai Veloster. I drove about 25 miles with them, with speeds up to about 60 mph. Everything fit perfectly and worked perfectly. I highly recommend these!
