This smart diode wiring kit lets you connect your RV's tail, brake, and turn signal lights to your towed car's lighting system so that you'll have the signal lights necessary for flat towing your vehicle.

Because your vehicle has variable voltage tail lights, you cannot use a standard diode wiring kit to get these signal lights. If regular diodes are used on a vehicle that has variable voltage tail lights, the bulbs will light up as though the towed car is braking whenever the tail lights are on. In other words, there will be no difference between the vehicle's brake lights and running lights. This is because variable voltage tail lights use the same wire to power both the brake lights and tail lights. They do this by using a 12-volt signal for brake lights and a 9-volt signal for tail lights.

Smart diodes correctly modulate the 12-volt signal coming from your RV to activate only the intended circuit. The result is that your vehicle's tail lights look and function as intended.

This wiring kit is designed to work with LED lights only. If your vehicle has incandescent lights, you'll need to use the smart diode kit designed for incandescent tail lights (RO94FR - sold separately) instead.

When installing this kit, you will need to add either a 4-way or 6-way round electrical connector to the front of your vehicle so you can connect to your RV when you're ready to tow. Use one of Roadmaster's coiled cable kits (RM-164-7 or RM-146-7 - sold separately) to get both the connector and the adapter cord needed for fast, easy hookup.

If your RV has separate tail light wiring, wherein the brake and turn signals run on separate wires, you'll need a wiring converter (RM-732 - sold separately) to complete this installation.

This system works great. Installed on a 2023 Equinox LT (AWD). It was a little challenging running the wiring from the engine compartment to the taillights of the car, but not overly complex. The etrailer video is very helpful.

Only 3 feet of split loom and kit uses blinker lights as brakes.

After looking at the layout of a Chevy Equinox, you really would only need maybe a couple of feet of loom, Most of the wiring should be tucked up against the vehicle. As for the blinker lights, I need to know what model your Equinox is, in order for me to better assist you.

It works as advertised. Installation not too hard, be patient, read the directions multiple time, you are dealing with very small wires, make good connections.

We were at a stand still. Wiring the lights from my motorhome to my ford pickup. Sheryl saved the day, without hesitation, she described just what we needed.
Always turn to etrailer for hitch, electrical and all towin needs. Never let me down.

  • How Does Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit Operate Taillights of 2019 Ford Edge ST
Yes you are exactly right on how the Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit part # RO44FR will work on your 2019 Ford Edge ST. It will function the taillights of your 2019 Ford Edge like a combined setup where the stoplight and turn signal will be on the same bulb. This is by far the simplest and easiest way to wire up your vehicle and since it's just as functional as a separate setup I like it the most and would be what I would personally do if I were you.

  • Where Does Running Light Circuit of 2020 Ford Edge Run to Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit
As long as you find a circuit that that has the running lights and the stoplights on your vehicle that would be all that you would need to run to the diodes of the Roadmaster smart diode kit part # RO44FR. The taillight circuit from your tow vehicle (the motorhome) would run to the middle pin of the diode on the side that has three. On your Ford Edge the wire that runs to your vehicle taillight is the one labeled car brake out.

  • Troubleshooting Roadmaster Diode Kit Not Activating Running Light Circuit 2020 Ford Edge ST
Hey Jeff, so the Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit part # RO44FR is the correct diode kit for your 2020 Ford Edge ST so the issue has to be related to how it's installed based on that and likelihood that something would be wrong with both diodes for the running light circuit to not function on both sides. So you would want to go over the connections made to the running light circuit and verify you are connected to the correct circuit.

  • Correct Flat Tow Wiring Harness Didoes for 2022 Ford F-150
The 2022 Ford F-150 (Non-Hybrid) requires special diodes for the flat-tow wiring harness. If you're not using these special diodes then you could run into issues like you described. The correct ones for this vehicle are the Roadmaster Universal Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes; part # RO44FR for vehicles with LEDs or part # RO94FR for vehicles with incandescent. If you are using smart diodes already please let me know and I would be glad to see if I can assist further another way.

  • Troubleshooting Lighting Issues On A 2023 Ford F-150 Flat Tow Wiring Setup
Hello Don. I just went over all of this with out installers. Why this problem started all of a sudden is a little odd, because it sounds like everything was working fine at first. The fact that both lights are fluttering indicates a ground issue. Seeing as you are using the Roadmaster Smart Diode Klit # RO44FR, I suggest that you pull the tail lights out and check the ground wires coming off of the diodes. Make sure that they are grounded firmly to good clean metal free of any paint, rust...

Hey Matt. The Roadmaster Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-152 would work for your 2023 Ford Bronco unless you have variable voltage tail lights. Variable voltage tail lights use the same wire for the brake signal and running lights instead of the standard turn/brake wire setup. • Do I Need To Have A 3-Wire to 2-Wire Converter To Flat Tow a 2022 Ford F-150?
Ultimately you do not need a converter as you can wire the tail lights on your 2022 Ford F-150 to operate as brake and turn signals just like the lights on your motorhome. You will need to use the Roadmaster Universal Wiring Kit with Smart Diodes # RO44FR as your F-150 has variable voltage LED lights that can be damaged if these diodes are not used. The diodes lower the voltage to the lights from 12 volts to 9 volts, protecting the tail lights. Your F-150 should also have a Battery Charge...
