Roadmaster Anti-Sway Bar Installed

Benefits of an Anti-Sway System

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar does for side-to-side movement what a good pair of shocks does for up-and-down motion. You will notice a marked improvement in your vehicle's stability as the bar works to balance weight transfer and reduce body roll. The anti-sway bar acts as a link between your vehicle's frame and its rear axle, using the axle as a brace to more effectively balance the shifting weight of your vehicle as you maneuver it. Lubricated bushings allow just enough pivot and rotation to compensate for the pressure placed on one side of your vehicle when it goes into sudden maneuvers, hits crosswinds or encounters shifting weights.

Roadmaster Anti-Sway Polyurethane Bushings

Superior Construction

The Roadmaster anti-sway bar is made of 4140 chromoly, a chromium and molybdenum steel alloy. This type of steel is considerably harder and stronger than the standard 1020 steel that is typically used in anti-sway applications. In addition, the larger diameter of the bar increases its torsional roll stiffness. The result is a bar that is not only stronger than the competition, but also nearly 30 percent better at resisting sway. The polyurethane bushings and grommets used at the attachment points are durable yet flexible, ensuring that the system is neither so rigid nor so malleable that it becomes ineffective.

On my 2021 Mercedes Benz class C Tiffin Wayfarer this rear anti-sway bar fit perfect. I didn’t have to make any modifications to the exhaust. With help I had it installed in 2 hours and 50 minutes. The pictures on the instructions could have been clearer to understand.

2022 Ram 3500

This product is of excellent quality and fit perfectly on my Sprinter 3500. It greatly reduced the swaying of the motorhome when going over uneven road surfaces and improved the overall handling on the highway. To test the difference we traveled over the same roads that caused dishes to move inside cabinets. They do no move now.

It is working great!!

by:
2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

The package arrived in a timely manner, just as promised. The installation went as described in the instructions and everything fit well. It improved the handling quite a bit. I already had installed “Sumo Springs” last year (worked great) and the sway bar controlles the sway even more. One thing I can add is, get a long 1/2” drill bit (8” long) to help with drilling the front bracket holes. The drill chuck on my drill, hit the link tabs, causing me to drill at a slight angle (horizontal holes).
The biggest problem I encountered is that the bar contacts the exhaust pipe (1/4” gap) and makes noise when driving (see photos) . I have a diesel and the exhaust pipe is about 3” in diameter, which doesn’t help. I’m trying to figure out how to resolve this issue. I will update when I do.

When the anti-sway bar is installed, it is in a set position, but because the exhaust uses rubber isolators that suspend it from the exhaust hangers, the actual position of the exhaust pipe can vary a bit. The good news is that the positioning of the exhaust can be modified a little bit by gently bending the exhaust hangers. If that doesnt work, you can go to a muffler shop and have the exhaust hangers relocated fairly inexpensively.

It should be a factory option. It controls the sway like I hoped it would. No issues one year later.

Mercedes-Benz

Took it to a Mercedes dealer to install and they said it didn’t fit. I sent pictures to you and was informed that it would be difficult to install as it was upside down. Took it home and installed it myself. Took. Long road trip last summer and the difference in handling was amazing. Still get pushed around by passing semi trucks but much lees so.

Dynamax

Adding this bar has basically taken away all the sway in my 2021 Dynamax isata 3. It makes driving in wind no problem, especially when towing. Installed it myself with help from my son.

by:

Nice that it installs in addition to the factory unit. Not a bad install but you do have to drill some holes in the frame. Clear instructions. Works very well to control body roll. Highly recommend

by:
Winnebago Navion

The Road master sway bar made a remarkable difference in the handling of my 25.5' Winnebago Navion. High winds and passing trucks made handling difficult, and forced me to slow down before this mod. Now I can drive 70 to 80 mph in most conditions and in comfort. Just an amazing difference. I also like that installation does not require removal of the oem sway bar, so I now have double stability.

by:

Finally got it installed. Not that it was a problem just my schedule. It does help with the swaying problem but now need new shocks to further improve. This is a process.

by:
2020 Thor Citation Sprinter Motorhome

Took about 3 hours to install. Purchased a 17/32" bit, and that worked adequately; bolts fit easily. Instructions were poor; there is a video that gives you the overview. Suggestion: before you bolt and torque the frame mounts, place the appropriate bolts and washers, as this won't happen (at least with my application) after, unless you want to dis-assemble. Package has been updated since the video, as the links are different, and there isn't a need to dis-assemble the link joints for grease.

I did this on my own (video recommended a 2nd person, which would help, but isn't mandatory), using ratchet straps to hold the bar during mounting. Kit was complete and professional. Amount of grease is adequate for the mounts. 80 ftlbs was the torque measure for the fittings. No measure given for the leaf U-bolts.

I would do this again. Sway and chassis-roll is substantially reduced. Confidence in drivability is enhanced. Worth the substantial price.

2022 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

I added the Roadmaster Auxiliary Anti-Sway Bar to my 2022 Isata 3, built on the 2021 MB Sprinter chassis. Before it was added, there was significant sway on uneven roads, and major rolling in and out of driveways. My wife complained constantly about the sway, which is apparently much more prominent in the passenger seat. I am very pleased with the improvement in the ride and my wife says the passenger experience is significantly improved.

I was amazed that etrailer.com shipped my order within an hour of placing it and it arrived within 2 days! I took the (very heavy) box to a local hitch shop that is an authorized Roadmaster dealer. Even though they had never installed one before, they completed the job in the amount of time that etrailer.com estimated.

I just completed an 800 mile trip and I am very pleased with this addition to my RV!

2018 Ram 3500

RM-1209-131 delivered a day earlier than promised. Installed on 2018 Winnebago 24V View on 2016 Mercedes 3500 sprinter chassis. Good fit had to modify the exhaust which exits on shotgun side ahead of wheels which was to close to the long links. Drove 20 miles to my indoor storage. Quite a reduction to side to side sway. Handles like a different vehicle (better). Can’t WAITE till our next trip. Tulsa auto spring did the installation. Mikes custom muffler shop did the exhaust modification. Do believe l made the right decision not to tackle the job on my own $250 to install. $120 for exhaust modification. In Tulsa, Ok wouldn’t, go anywhere else to get the job done.

10/11/2020

Driven 7500 miles wind trucks and mountains out west. Went from scary ride to more like my f150. Can’t believe Winnebago doesn’t do this at the factory prior to delivery. It would improve their sales probably so much that the cost would be absorbed.

2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500

I just received the sway bar today and was delivered very expeditiously. I do want to thank the etrailer staff for providing great service. I want to especially thank Conner L for working with me patiently to expertly advise me what I need to correct a sway issue I'm have with my RV coach. Conner is very well versed in RV technical knowledge and was a great help in suggesting options. My entire experience was very fluid through out the whole process. The assembly arrived quicker than anticipated and the shipping web site kept me informed as to where the shipment was each day. I'm looking forward to the benefits of my sway bar assemble as soon as it is installed. I am also looking forward to my next etrailer purchase. Thank you again.

I just installed the roadmasteranti sway bar 1209-131 on my 2013 Winnebago via.The vehicle is a 2012. it fit well and road test good. I had to shorten the exhaust about 9 inches because it interfered with drivers side arm other than that its good to go.

Jim

2/17/2014

I am thinking about adding the 1209-131 to my 2011 Winnebago Via 25Q. Which model Via do you have? Im hoping I wont have to modify the exhaust on my Via Q. Thanks.

Mack

2/19/2014

I put the sway bar on a 2012 25t I did shorten the exhaust about 9 inches I think 2 or 3 inches would have been good. That was easy to do, as new as they are just take exhaust loose at first coupling pass the elbow slide it out and take some off the piece that goes to the inside. Worked well for me. Going from our drive onto the blacktop road in front of our place was all it tuck to decide it was worth the effort. It fit very well. Thanks Mack. PS I am 75 and 240 Made a man door step for drivers door .It works well Love it. Mack

2013 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

Installed the Roadmaster sway bar (RM-1209-131) and SumoSuper Springs (SSF-106-47 and SSR-338-54) on our 2020 Thor Tiburon. It made a huge difference. Before installing these items driving the rig was pretty scary at anything over 55 mph, even on smooth roads and limited wind. The rig would start to rock after a semi passed or slight dip in the lane and it would take what seemed like for ever for her settle down. Now driving the rig is a much more in-control feeling. It's noticeable for the passengers as well. Totally recommend this for anybody with a MBZ 3500 chassis. It didn't make the ride any harsher, just more in control. Installation wasn't too difficult. Be sure to watch the different install videos, some good pointers in those to make the installation easier.

Winnebago

14 Winnebago View
Added Suma Springs
and Koni FSD Shocks the same time I installed the sway bar, so not sure exactly how much each component contributed, but it was the best handling ever. A lot less sway and barely noticed semi trucks passing, in either direction. Also, the cruise control never shut off, and I did have some strong crosswinds.

by:
2015 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter

I put this on my 2015 Winnebago view. I left the stock swaybar and added this one to the front of the rear axle. It was the single biggest improvement that I did to the suspension. I can't believe Winnebago sells the RV without this upgrade. It improves handling in the wind or turning corners tremendously.

by:

This thing changed the handling of my RV significantly. It was like going from a horse and buggy to a sports car! It truly made a huge difference in the wind, rough roads, crossing parking lot aprons and cornering. It's worth the money to make the upgrade and Etrailer did an excellent job on the install!

by:

It took a little effort on the phone to figure out which sway bar was needed for the motorhome I have. I was skeptical about the right one being sent but it was correct and installation was a couple of hours. It fit perfectly and really dampened the body roll we were having. Worked great, service and delivery was fantastic. This was the first time I have used etrailer.com and am very happy with their product and willingness to help. I'll be using them again and I highly recommend them.

by:

Good product. Really stabilized my motor home

by:

Motorhome handles so much better now, no sway when passed by semi's and no play in steering wheel with this and front anti-sway bar
