Perhaps the simplest type of heat exchanger, the tube-fin effectively cools a variety of automotive systems. The concept is simple: Fluid cools as it travels through the core by transferring heat out to the fins. The fins then provide the surface area necessary for sufficient heat exchange to take place, allowing the heat pulled from the fluid to dissipate into the surrounding air. The result is longer-lasting oil and a better-functioning engine.

The sandwich adapter in this kit provides the external oil lines necessary to install a cooler without requiring you to move the factory spin-on oil filter, making it even easier to extend the life of your vehicle's engine. In addition, the thermostatic bypass feature allows oil cooler than 180 degrees to bypass the heat exchanger, so your engine will warm up faster.

It has been 1 year now. Here is the story.

Dodge
Ram 1500 5.7 w/3.92 gears.

Oil temp at speed with no trailer: 224
Oil temp at speed with Springdale Mini RV: 240 (backed off at that point….it would have kept climbing)

After the install:

Oil temp at speed with no trailer: 200ish.
With trailer 210-220

Before I did this, I had to keep it at 55 in the expressway to keep my oil from turning into charcoal. Now I can drive normally. Only at the hottest part of the summer on a long grade did I ever brake 230 and it cooled right back off at the top of the hill.

Also holds about another quart of fluid which I like from a wear/tear perspective.

Even if the temp wasn’t an issue this kit would be worth it to move the oil filter to a non-retarded spot. I opted to go with the frame on the right side. Can change filter from side if wheel is turned. Very nice.

My vehicle is a 2010 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi 4x4. Overall product is great, those Conti hoses are awesome and little hard to get on lol but only issue I had I couldn’t retain my factory mopar oil filter which isn’t a big deal I got a WIX filter that fit. Thanks for quick shipping and great product! Will be buying a transmission cooler from you soon!

by:

Installed this on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland with the hemi as the oil temp was heating up while towing. The install was not fun as I had to remove the front fender, grill and under body shield. Had to relocate oil filter to driver side and as a result, ran out of hose and had go out to buy more. Wish there was a few more feet. I placed oil cooler in front of radiator.

Once installed, oil cooler has worked great as I regularly go off-roading and camping towing a 6k pound trailer. Oil temps stay 20-30 degrees cooler making a huge difference when towing. No issues with the oil cooler after a year of use. Has been a great product, I would recommend it.

by:

Installed this product on my 2013 Ram 5.7 Hemi. Install was simple and straight forward. I hoped there would be improvements in the operating temperature of my engine oil, which there was. Now towing my trailer is no worry about engine oil temp. This cooler works exactly as advertised, and the temp never go above 220. An unexpected result was better gas mileage by almost 2 additional miles per gallon. Also the truck runs much quieter than before and smoother. This noticed by my wife who rides with me always. So I would defiantly call this a win win install and purchase.

I purchased this kit 1 year ago for an 08 Toyota Highlander V6 Sport. The vehicle had a small (and I mean small) trans cooler already installed with the sport, but adding this additional cooler gives us the piece of mind an confidence that when either towing or evening just sitting in temps up to 116F at the drive through in SoCal during summer hours, my family will stay cool. The fans run less and the whole vehicle runs a bit cooler as well. I have verified this with 3rd party OBD readers, actively watching oil temps both at normal operating temps, hill climbs, towing, and when sitting in extreme heat. IT DOESNT BUDGE! I dont have enough good things to say about this cooler. If youve ever thought about it, you should do it. Very easy to install and it flat out works.

by:

It doesn't fit my car even though the website said it would. I had already installed the radiator component before i found the filter adapter didn't fit so i couldn't return the product.

by:

Easy to install but make sure you use quality thread tape. Check for leakage after 300 miles of driving. Then check again.

by:

just what i needed easy install nice quality

by:

To start I gave the product a good rating only because the kit put together by Derale came with the wrong barb fittings. I called Derale directly and they sent out the right fittings. I have not installed the kit yet but it is well made in the USA. If the kit would of came with the proper barb fitting definitely would of got a excellent rating.

by:

This is a quality product and performs great. Installed on a 2012 Toyota Tacoma and had to have some machine work accomplished and a change from the original oil filter. Installation was straight forward after those issues were resolved.

by:

Great product. Easy installation.

by:

Happy to find a system with the adapter. Mounted to my 4runner very easily. Not much confidence in the plastic mounting method will make something else.

by:

Doesn't take long to install.

by:

Bill is very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. Good fella, I can't comment on the product yet because I haven't installed it yet. Thanks Jesse

by:

Product was exactly as advertised. Product was shipped quickly, very happy with service.

  • Oil Cooler for 1.9L Volkswagen Diesel Engine
Diesel engines in general operate at higher temperatures than gasoline engines. Gas engines have a typical oil temp of 200 - 250 degrees F, while diesel engine temps can reach as much as 600 degrees (!) within the cylinders. Your 1.9L Volkswagen diesel can be fitted with an oil cooler, according to my contact at Derale, as long as its oil pump is in good shape. Oil coolers are not vehicle-specific, nor fluid-specific; you can use as large and efficient a cooler as you have space to install...

  • Transmission Cooler and Engine Oil Cooler Recommendations for a 2008 Chevy Express Van, 4.8 Liter V8
Transmission coolers are not vehicle specific, but there are ones that are recommended for certain engine sizes. What I did was look up the recommended coolers for the 4.8 liter engine for the 2008 Silverado to get an idea of what we recommend for that engine size. The most popular cooler for the 4.8 is the Derale Transmission Cooler, # D13502, and GM fitting, # D13035. The cooler is listed for a load of up to 3,500 pounds. Before deciding on a cooler though it will be a good idea to...

  • Engine Oil Cooler Recommendation for a 2006 Toyota Tundra with 4.7 Liter Engine
The Derale Tube-Fin Oil Cooler part # D15501 would work very well for your 2006 Toyota Tundra with a 4.7 liter engine. I did some checking and the threads of your oil filter are 3/4 inch -16 which the # D15501 comes with an adapter for this thread size so it should work well for you. I attached an FAQ on oil coolers for you to check out also.

  • Could Derale Engine Oil Cooler D15001 Fit 2005 Nissan Xterra to Replace Factory Cooler
Our oil coolers install between the oil filter and the vehicle block like the part # D15501 that you referenced. This would perform the same function as your factory cooler and since it comes with a thread adapter that fits the oil filter of your 2005 Nissan Xterra it also is a confirmed fit so this would be a solution.

Yes, I did some checking and it looks like your 1979 International Scout II with a 345 cubic inch motor has 3/4 inch-16 filter thread size which is one of the included sandwich adapters with the Derale Tube-Fin Engine Oil Cooler Kit # D15501 so this transmission cooler kit should work well for you. Coolers like the Derale Tube-Fin Engine Oil Cooler # D15501 are not vehicle-specific so you can install as large an oil cooler as you have room to mount it. This unit measures 12-3/4 wide x 7-5/8 tall x 3/4 deep and ideally mounts in front of your AC condenser for maximum air flow and cooling. • Engine Oil Cooler for a 1997 Chevy Pickup Truck with 5.7 Liter Motor
In 1997 Chevy and GMC trucks were just called either a C series or K series. Silverado was only a trim level at that time. The trucks weren't called just Silverados until 1999/2000. But oil coolers and sandwich adapters are not fit guided anyway. You can add an oil cooler to your 1997 Chevy pickup but you would not use the cooler portion of the radiator since it was designed for use with the transmission fluid. What I recommend is a kit, # D15501, so that the oil has its own cooler. It...
