Installation

This custom-fit T-connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side interior trim panels in your rear cargo area.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

Tail Light Converter with Surface-Mount Technology

A tail light converter is built into this T-connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of the trailer. This converter combines the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

Curt builds each tail light converter using surface-mount technology (SMT). This method of construction involves soldering electronic components directly to the surface of a printed circuit board. SMT eliminates the need for leads, which are used in older through-hole technology. The result is a circuit board that is smaller yet provides more routing area and that offers superior performance, reliability and durability.

Curt SMT Circuit Boards

Circuit boards constructed using SMT have been shown to perform better under rough conditions with excessive vibration than those made using the through-hole method. And where would vibration be more likely to occur than in towing applications? Curt converters also produce less heat, leading to increased durability and longer life. In addition, lower levels of resistance ensure better performance, especially for parts that operate at higher frequencies.

Each Curt circuit board is made using high-quality components that are pieced together in the most technologically savvy fashion, leading to greater predictability and reliability in functioning.

Once I figured out where the connectors behind the van's panels were it was simply plug and play. I connected the ground wire to an existing screw making that simple too.

by:
2010 Toyota Sienna

Installed and tested the trailer wiring in my 2002 sienna this evening. Works perfectly. It took an hour to do, and I am a novice amateur with the confidence to try.
Tools required: a couple screwdrivers, a 10 mm ratcheting socket wrench. Its a good thing I have lean narrow hands to fit in the tight spaces. Even if I wanted to try splicing, and even if I had a way to get toyota wiring to match u.s. trailer lighting, I would have cursed myself silly for hours trying to work behind the panels of my van.
A tip for future users: don't try to drill in the ground. I lost the screw and a few more before discovering that the jack bracket will bolt the ground wire to the body of the van spectacularly.

I have had this installed for a year, now. It works great and I havent had to give it a second thought. The wire is nice and long, so it will reach out to the connector thats mounted too far back on my 14-foot trailer. My 4x8 trailer is more common for me to use, and there, too, I have no problem at all. It just works, plain and simple.

Easy to install harness package.

by:

I was about to wire up my van the old fashioned way which would have taken hours and then I found your harness online by accident. It was amazing. I had it hooked up in about 45 minutes and it works great!!

by:

Easy process and quick delivery. Thanks

1999 Toyota Sienna

The product and price are great. I wish the video that showed the installation would have an option other than just letting the wire hang out of the back hatch of the vehicle. I would prefer to drill through the vehicle body and make it look a bit more professional. Other than that, it was a piece of cake to install and the video was perfect for basic install. I can't really complain, due to the amount of money I saved with e-trailer.

The manufacturer specifically designed the harness so the connector would be deployed from the interior of the vehicle when needed. This way, the connector is protected from damage when its not being used. The rear hatch of your vehicle has weatherstipping thats thick enough that the wire for the trailer connector wont be damaged as long as you avoid the latch area.

by:

Super easy to install this and the wire length is great. I finally have power to my hitch cargo box and I couldn’t be more pleased with this kit. My one recommendation is that extra self tapping screws be included on the kit as I ended up losing the original one inside the car while trying to drill for the ground wire. Otherwise, install was super fast.

by:

The Curt T-Connector was delivered promptly after I ordered it. etrailer provided me with a great installation video. It was a fairly simple install.

I'm glad I chose to order this from etrailer.

Thank goodness for the video that showed how to install the wiring harness. Unlike the last wiring harness I installed, there were no wires to be cut, matched up, and crimped. The existing wire harnesses were simple unsnapped and the new one snapped in between them - and it was instantly and easily attached. Did this on both sides, and attached the ground wire to the body with the screw provided. I must admit that the plastic panels did not flex as easily as in the video in order to get to the hidden wires, but it didn't impede the progress that much. I reassembled everything, plugged it into my trailer, and wah-lah! Let there be light!!!

2002 Toyota Sienna

Easy installation in our 2002 Sienna. We put the control module in the jack storage recess, and picked-up a ground from one of the bracket mounting screws in that same location - no drilling required. Works well, and is about as easy to install as it gets.

I very seldom give 5 star reviews, but etrailer.com is like seriously hitting the EASY button!! From the initial call to order the harness and the information I needed for my receiver hitch bolts, they were fantastic! When I need anything for towing or camping in my rig,etrailer.com is my new go-to company. You won't be disappointed I assure you.

by:
2000 Toyota Sienna

This wiring harness arrived as advertised. It only took me 30 minutes to connect to my vehicle and that's only because I had trouble separating one of the panels on my vehicle and that had nothing to do with the harness. It was really simple to install and it worked great. Etrailer comes through again!!

by:
2001 Toyota Sienna

Easy installation on a 2001 Sienna van. Wiring harness presented no problems once the interior panels are loosened up. Biggest problem is the age of the body panel clips and a couple of them broke before releasing. Others went well. No real damage, just not quite as tight as before, but not visible.
Smaller hands would have been better! Great product, saved us hundreds of dollars with self installation.

by:
2002 Toyota Sienna

Just follow the directions and no need to probe wires with a test light or chance to mess your vehicle up! I did purchase a wire loom from my local Napa auto parts store and ran electrical tape to keep the wire loom intact and protect my vehicle from electrical shorts down the road.

by:
2001 Toyota Sienna

The hitch harness proved to be very easy to install by following the instructions and video and product-wise was a good investment. Over all, the transaction and the installation was a breeze. A "well done" shout-out to the etrailer crew!

by:
2002 Toyota Sienna

1. Put some 1/4” split wrap around the cross-sill cable and harness so that you don't snag the wires on the sharp edges inside the vehicle going up to the lights or across the sill.
2. Be careful pulling off the sill plate -- you'll probably need to replace some of the fasteners.

All in all, very nice!

by:
2000 Toyota Sienna

Installation was simple and went exactly as shown in the installation instructions. I use my trailer frequently and the lights work everytime. I would strongly recommend this product for ease and reliability.

by:

Phenomenal service. I will continue buying from etrailer.com. Their service representatives are fantastic; giving me the impression that this is a family-owned business. Installation of the trailer wiring for my vehicle was a cinch, thanks to thier online installation video. You guys saved me about $100 at least. Keep up the great work.

by:
1999 Toyota Sienna

Got the adapter one installed it per instructions fine. However it did not work properly. Took many hours of process of elimination to figure out why. Even bought a new adapter from someone else.
The instructions should include voltage requirements for each specific model.

by:
2002 Toyota Sienna

Great product. Plenty of wire to make a professional looking installation.
Clear and adequate instructions
All terminals and plugs fit as they should and clicked into place as they should.

by:
2000 Toyota Sienna

This product was pretty simple to install and it probably took me about 40 minutes total. The installation video made it really easy and was extremely helpful. I am not super mechanically inclined, and I was able to figure it out. If you have basic tools, and some basic know-how, you can definitely do this installation. I saved a lot of money by doing this myself.

by:

Easy installation! Good instructions.

by:

Super quick follow up and delivery. Even confirmed delivery. GREAT! Wiring harness went in easy. Hitch piece solid.

by:

This as a replacement for an existing harness. It arrived when you said it would, the directions were easy enough for me to follow ( I had installed the existing harness), and it plugged in with no problems and works correctly.

by:
2000 Toyota Sienna

I liked the simplicity of the installation. I will definitely use the same type harness whenever I install a hitch on another vehicle.

  • How to Install Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness# C55418 on 2002 Toyota Sienna
We sure do! I've linked you to the installation instructions as well as to an install video. In a nutshell, you'll remove the rear threshold and pull back the trim panels on either side of the cargo area so you can access the back side of the taillight assemblies. You'll unplug the vehicle wiring harness from the taillight assembly, plugging the half of the harness with the YELLOW wire inline between the taillight assembly and the vehicle wiring harness on the driver's side. • Trailer Turn Signals are Only Working Intermittently on Trailer Towed by 2001 Toyota Sienna
Ground problems can cause all sorts of weird things to happen. Most likely that is the problem. Since you tested the 4-Way on the van and it is working that narrows down the issue to the trailer. First make sure that the trailer connector is free of dirt and corrosion. This can cause a bad ground and if you are moving things around and it suddenly starts to work it could be because at a slightly different angle there is a better ground connection. OR there is a loose or broken connection...

  • 2000 Toyota Sienna With Low Voltage At 4 Pole Plug
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector Item # C55418 on your 2000 Toyota Sienna with low voltage at the plug is most likely a ground issue. Follow the ground wire from the converter box to where it is grounded to the vehicle. If the self tapper was used, make sure the self tapper did not back out a little. Sometimes if the metal is not thick, the self tapper may not get tight enough and the ring terminal will be able to move. If this is the case re-locate...

The Curt # C13511 you were looking at is a great choice that will give you a 2 inch receiver that's ideal for towing or carrying a hitch mounted accessory. I really like Curt hitches because of the heavier powder coating they apply, which will stand up a bit better to nicks and scratches; this will be important in prolonging the life of the hitch and keeping it corrosion free.
