Installation of Curt Brake Controller Adapter

To install your Curt electric brake controller, you need to connect the wiring of the controller to your vehicle. Certain auto manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein wiring is run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. When this is done, a port is installed at your dash so that you can easily plug in a brake controller.

This adapter plugs into the port on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. For most applications, this harness is located beneath the dash, near the center console.

No hardwiring is required to install this adapter. After you plug it into the factory port, you simply plug the other end of the adapter directly into your electric trailer brake controller. Because there are no wires to connect, installation is not permanent. You can unplug and remove your brake controller at any time to transfer it to another vehicle or securely stow it away.

1997 Ford F-350 Super Duty

They are the best at what they do. They found the parts I needed and got them to me the next day. I appreciate the dedication to their customers. This product worked for my 1997 Ford F350 with the factory-installed tow package.

by:

Everything was as described. Easy easy installation in 10 minutes. Not the top of the line controller but it's all I need. Very fast shipping as well. Couldn't be more happy with etrailer. I will be purchasing my fifth through etrailer soon!

by:

Great job came on time. Installed easily. Works great. Better still is the service from etrailer. New what I needed for my truck. Deserves repeat business

Ford F-250 Super Duty

PERFECT. The etrailer.com employee (Roger R) that assisted me on my phone in order was fast, and efficient. He looked up my truck (2004 f250 diesel 4x4), and assisted me in ordering the exactly correct harness for my application. Plug and play. Thanks.

by:

Plugged right in to my expeditions factory plug quick easy install.

by:

straight forward install, works as inte nded.

by:

Excellent. Perfect fit, exactly what was needed. Connected the Curt C51110 Brake control to factory wiring. Only thing that could make it better is if it came with someone to plug it in for me and save me 10 seconds.

The products worked great up until about a few weeks ago Thats when I sold the truck where the items were installed. lol. Really though, I very much liked how the products listed and purchased from etrailer.com were easy to find, fit exactly as described, and performed as needed. etrailer.com is always one of the first places I look when searching for items for my new truck.

by:

Exactly what I ordered and expected.

by:

Worked perfectly

by:

Wonderful product as well as wonderful customer service

by:

We purchased our new Ford Explorer with the towing package but the dealership said it didn't come with a trailer brake controller and nothing was made for our SUV so we would have to get an aftermarket controller and have them run the wiring. After looking online I found a video on etrailer.com and it was just as easy as the video to install, the hardest part was finding the Ford plug under the dash, very happy with this product and ready to haul our RV everywhere.

2017 Land Rover Evoque

Made installation in a Land Rover Discovery Sport a breeze! Note: This option isn’t listed on either Curt or eTrailer, but it is absolutely an option if you have the factory installed OEM trailer tow package. Your factory tow package must be dealer activated in your vehicle’s software to use the quick connect harness shown here.

Total plug and play. Zero cutting, splicing or tapping required! Fantastic.

TIP: Select your model year and Land Rover Evoque (Shares the same chassis and tow electrics as the Discovery Sport) if you want the right part numbers for your quick connect options.

by:

Works great in my 2000 f250

by:

Perfect fit very easy to install

Still working great

Haven’t had a chance to install it yet but fast shipping

Nice trailer brake. Works as it should.

2004 Ford F-150

This is well worth the money. The cord ends appear to be high quality and fit the wiring connectors on the truck and brake controller perfectly. It makes hooking up your new Curt brake controller as easy as plugging in a cord. The only way to make this any easier is to have someone do it for you. The hardest part of the whole installation was finding the factory connector to plug this cord into. Hint: On my 2004 Ford F150, the brake controller connector was just above the factory diagnostic port underneath the dash.

by:
2010 Ford Expedition

This cable made the job very easy. took 10 minutes to plug in and mount with Curt Venturer Brake Controller. Very inexpensive solution. This is an old vehicle (2001 Expedition) and didn't want to put a lot of money into a brake controller setup. These parts and directions from the website made it quick, easy and inexpensive. I have not towed with the controller yet.

by:
2010 Ford Explorer

Product worked liked a charm!! I have a 2010 Ford Explorer XLT, and the Curt brake controller with the factory adapter cable was a perfect fit!

Note: Even though it doesn't specifically say on the etrailer website, the adapter connector WILL fit a 2010 Ford Explorer that has a Factory Tow package installed. The factory connector is located next to the steering column underneath the kickboard. It is kinda of hidden away, but it's up and next toe the brake pedal switch connector.

by:
Allegro

After a little research by the etrailer team it was determined this was the correct cable for a 2013 Tiffin Allegro with a pre wired 7 pin plug to go itch the Curt controller. The team worked and researched and was great with customer service.

Land Rover LR4

Installed it on my LR-4. The dual axle Alum Trailer (Aluma) works great so far! Only a few Land Rover dealerships will install the trailer Brake system. Trailer dealers want touch Land Rovers?? That's why 4 stars. $350 to get it installed!! LR Fort Worth,Texas

by:

I finally got around to installing my new brake controller. It was very easy and I had it installed in about 15 minutes. I used one of the bolts under the dash to mount it so I didn't even drill any holes. Still need to do a few more test runs with my trailer with different weight loads.

  • Hitch, Brake Controller and 7-Way Trailer Connector for Motorhome on 1999 Ford E350 Van Chassis
It can be tricky to fit a hitch to a motorhome on a cutaway van chassis, because you'll need to make sure that the hitch you choose has the proper amount of drop so the receiver will clear the underside of the back bumper. To find the drop you'll need, you'll need to measure from the underside of the frame member downwards until you clear the lowest point of the back bumper. A service body hitch like # 41990-07 which offers a 7 inch drop will most likely be what you need. This hitch...

  • Brake Controller Connector Location on 2000 Ford Expedition
The connector you're looking for is gray in color, and is typically located to the left of the OBDII connector located under the dash below the steering column. According to my research, all models of the 2000 Expedition were equipped with the connector, so it should be under there somewhere. Try looking behind the OBDII connector. It's also possible that the connector is taped to another nearby wiring harness and the tape is covering the connector. If you use a Curt brake controller like...

This is the easiest option. The other option is to cut off the plug on the Curt brake controller # C84VV and hardwire it to the Ford harness.
