Installation

This custom-fit T-One connector plugs into your vehicle's wiring harness, which is located behind the driver's-side and passenger's-side tail lights. You will have to remove the tail light assemblies to access this harness.

T-One Connection Location Points Behind Tail Lights

Once you've plugged in the T-connector, run the hot lead up to your car battery. Connect the lead to the included fuse holder, and then connect the fuse holder to the positive terminal on your battery and insert the provided fuse.

Once installation is complete, the 4-way flat connector will be stowed beneath your vehicle, near the trailer hitch. A mounting bracket (sold separately) is recommended to keep the connector secure.

It is recommended that you use a small amount of grease on all electrical connections - the plugs on your automobile and the 4-pole connector itself - to help prevent corrosion.

ModuLite Powered Tail Light Converter

A ModuLite power module is built into this T-One connector. Because most trailers run on a two-wire system - wherein the brake and turn signals are carried on one wire - the separate brake and turn signals from your vehicle's three-wire system need to be combined so they are compatible with the wiring system of your trailer. This power module functions as a tail light converter to combine the brake and turn signal functions of your automobile so that they run on one wire to properly activate your trailer's tail lights. Note: This will not affect how the tail lights on your vehicle operate.

With a ModuLite, your trailer's lights will be powered without overloading your vehicle's electrical system. Because the module draws power directly from your car's battery and bypasses the electrical routes that are used by a basic wiring harness, there is virtually no draw on your tail light circuits.

First of all i want to tell you that the Dodge dealer asked me 775.00$ + taxes for a hitch and wires for my trailer. They told me that they

had to remove the bumper to install the hitch.(2 hrs labor at 85.00$/hr).They also ask me 199.00$ + 1.5hr labor. for the wires.

I decided to do the job myself. So i found on the web a hitch sold by a particuler saler for 100.00$ + 20.00$ hardware. It took’s me about

tree hrs alone to install the hitch. I start searching on the web for a trailer site and i found your company. When i saw that video

showing how we can intall a hitch whitout remove the bumper i was so happy that i went to the dealer and i show them whit a print of

instruction how we can do the job.

At that time i saw all the accessories you had to sale and that’s why i bought wires from your commpany. Your name is in my browser

and i will talk to my friends about your site. Thank you for the services.

I send a photo of my self and few photos showing step by step my job.

2012 Dodge Journey

This trailer hitch bolted up Easy to my 2009 Dodge Journey with the help of my 12 year old son. This project Only took and hour and a half, first time ever putting on a trailer hitch. I also bought the Wire harness to, it was a breeze, and took about an hour to wire. Over all this project was pretty simple, no special tools need, just follow the directions.

2009 Dodge Journey

As easy to connect as advertised. I'd advise running that one connection from the drivers side to the passenger side before you install the hitch though. Lots of room to work with that way.
And I'm not sure why that heavy wire needs to be connected to the battery (you can't even see the battery in my '09!!) but it's a pain to run under the vehicle. I ended up taking of body panels inside and running it that way. I bit more work but I know it's protected that way and not going to melted on the muffler.

2009 Dodge Journey

Pretty simple to hook up. It is much easier if you are removing the rear valance (plastic bumper) at the same time to install the tow hitch. The only difficult part is running the power wire to the battery. My Journey has a power outlet at the back, so I ended up splicing in there. I feel a little more comfortable with it being on a key switched outlet and don't intend to run the lighting without the motor running.

Yes,I received that T-one vehicle wiring harness, That`s already install and that was easy to install, I recommand that to everyone who need it. Thank`s

by:

The hitch is working great. The installation was a little bit tricky, but i did do it myself on my back in my garage at home. Only thing the directions didn't tell me was to remove the tow ring that comes on the vehicle from the factory. Other than, that all went smooth.

Not my first rodeo with these people. Great service, and great products. Just got another hitch and electrical hookup for our 2016 jeep , so will install soon! RJ

Hitch fit well, instructions were clear, it took about 1 hour to install. The wiring kit was a bit more time-consuming but it also fit and worked well. Thanks!

2009 Dodge Journey

Harness was easy to install and had instructions that were easy to follow with illustrations. I also got the tow hitch.. Saved me over $350 on the $525 that they wanted to install one at the shop.

Very satisfied with the product installed easily and it leaves nothing to guess about all wires and plugs install with ease along with the mount

by:

Nice price. Instructional video was spot on and installation went smoothly. Recommend wearing a some 9mm gloves as there is a lot of tucking into areas that like to "bite".
Definitely recommend.

..... And here I am again buying another one because the first power module shorted out for no obvious reason. Power going into module, no power going out of module. The wiring on the trailer works fine with another vehicle. I guess 3 years is the life expectancy.

Mine appears to have also burned out after 3 years. Installed in 2012.

  • Compatibility of 2009 Dodge Journey to Pull U-Haul Rental Trailer
For your 2009 Dodge Journey, your max towing capacity is 1,000 lbs. If you use the smallest utility trailer 4x7 then the unloaded weight of the trailer is 630 lbs giving you a loading capacity of 370 lbs total. If you use the smallest enclosed cargo trailer of 4x8 you will be able to carry only 150 lbs because the empty weight is 850 lbs. You may be better off renting a vehicle equipped for towing or a van/truck for the entire load. If you decide you want to utilize your vehicle, then...

  • Troubleshooting a Tow Ready Wiring Kit on a 2009 Dodge Journey
The first thing I would do is go over the installation instructions and make sure that all of the connections are being made securely. I attached installation instructions for you to check out. If everything seems to be connected properly, you will want to use a circuit tester like the Circuit Tester Kit # PTW2993 and test the circuits for voltage before and after the black converter box. If there is voltage going into the box but none coming out except the right blinker signal you will...

  • Trailer Wiring Recommendation for a 2009 Dodge Journey
We've had several positive reviews of the Tow Ready wiring harness part # 118474. This is the first time we've heard of one shorting out after winter. Typically these thing short out because of a short on the trailer wiring. Before you install another unit I would recommend you go over your trailer wiring looking for any corrosion or cut or exposed wires and fix as necessary. It could even be corrosion on the vehicle side 4-way from being out in the elements all winter long. Curt harnesses...

  • Trailer Hitch and Accessory Recommendations for a 2009 Dodge Journey SE
Any of the trailer hitches available for the 2009 Dodge Journey will fit all models, including the SE. I have included a link to the available hitches for you. The most popular hitch option for your Journey is the Curt hitch, # C13201. If you like the Draw-Tite hitch, # 75648, it will also fit. If you plan on doing some towing I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag. For trailer wiring, use # 118474....

  • Troubleshooting Tow Ready Trailer Wiring # 118474 that No Longer Functions on 2009 Dodge Journey
The Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118474 that you referenced does have a 1-year limited warranty, but it sounds like something on your trailer shorted out the harness and now it is broken. You can test the converter to verify this if you like. Here's how: What you will want to do is test the wires going into the box of the converter box for voltage with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to see if there is voltage going into the box when the taillight functions of your vehicle...

  • Parts Needed to Tow a Trailer with a 2009 Dodge Journey SXT
To tow a trailer with your 2009 Dodge Journey SXT you'll need a trailer hitch receiver, a ball mount, hitch ball, pin and clip, and trailer wiring. The trailer hitch I suggest is the Draw-Tite Max-Frame # 75648 which is a 2 inch, Class III receiver. A 2 inch receiver will have a higher weigh capacity as well as more variety of accessories that can be used. I've attached a video of the hitch being installed for you to take a look at. The power wire for trailer wiring harness # 118474 for your 2009 Dodge Journey is 12 gauge wire such as # 12-1-1 sold by the foot. The harness uses a 10 amp fuse. If you also need the fuse holder we have # SWC9539 which takes ATC-ATO fuses.

  • Troubleshooting Vehicle and Trailer Taillights Not Functioning After Towing Trailer
It sounds like the trailer wiring harness part # 118474 that you have installed on your 2009 Dodge Journey shorted out due to a short in the trailer's wiring and is in need of being replaced. First thing you want to do is remove the wiring harness to make sure that your vehicle taillights go back to working correctly. There may be fuses on the vehicle's fuse box that need to be replaced. These harnesses are designed as fusible link between the trailer's wiring and the vehicle's wiring...

You can install the hitch, # C13201, and wiring, # 118474, in any order you want on your 2009 Dodge Journey. It would not cause any short or other issue to do so. I have included links to videos showing example installations of both parts for you.

  • How to Install a Brake Controller on a 2009 Dodge Journey
Though I am not sure what the connector you are referring to is for, I can assure you that it is not for trailer wiring which means we would not have anything that plugs into it to operate the trailer lights. If you would like to add a 4-way trailer connector to your 2009 Dodge Journey then I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118474 which is almost completely plug and play. If the trailer has brakes then you will need a brake controller and a 4 to 7-way trailer wiring...
