You can bypass the factory trailer wiring harness on your 2000 Mercury Mountaineer by installing Curt wiring harness # C55345. It plugs in line with the vehicle tail light wiring and connects to the vehicle battery to power the trailer lights. This will provide a 4-Way flat connector at the rear of the vehicle.
If you need a 7-Way connector, then you would just add # ETBC7. I have included some links that explain the ETBC7 installation for you.

For your 2007 Mercury Montego the recommended Hopkins trailer wiring kit is actually the part # 46255 and not the 40475 which I believe you meant the # HM11140475 that fits Ford Freestars.
The # 46255 uses a signal light converter which helps convert the vehicle's taillight wiring to circuits that can work with a trailer whereas the kit you mentioned installing does not. I suspect that's where the problem is. view full answer...
We offer a security strap to help deter theft of trunk-mount bike racks like the Hollywood Racks # HRF2 and # HRF2-3. That item is # TH533. If you want something more secure you could use a cable lock like # e98891 to lock the rack to a rear tow hook for example. You can also use the cable lock to secure the bikes to the carrier when they are loaded for travel. view full answer...
For your 1999 Mercury Mystique, I would recommend the Curt Class I Receiver, part # C11113. The installation hardware is included with the receiver. I will provide a link below to the installation instructions. You will also need a Draw Bar # C45016.
You will need the appropriate trailer ball, if you do not already have one. The coupler on your trailer should have the necessary ball size stamped on it, which should be either 1-7/8 or 2 inch.
For a 1-7/8 inch ball I would recommend part... view full answer...
Hitch adapters create quite a bit of leverage and movement in the hitches they are installed in. Since 1-1/4 inch hitches are very low in capacity already it's not a good idea to use an adapter like the part # HTAD to tow with.
You'd just need to get a 1-1/4 inch ball mount to fit the hitch and there'd be no need for an adapter like the # 3594. view full answer...
I have a solution for you, but the Valley Wiring harness part 30130 has been discontinued. For a very similar wiring harness confirmed to fit your 2006 Mercury Mariner I would recommend the Tow Ready Harness part # 118551. This harness is available and would work well. I attached an install video for you to check out as well. view full answer...
Lippert Ground Control # LC358590 is designed for 5th wheel trailers so it is not a good option for your bumper pull trailer. There isn't an automated system like this for travel trailers at this time from us. view full answer...
The problem is that the ball holes of ball mounts for a 1-1/4 inch hitch are all 3/4 inch in diameter and thd 2-5/16 inch balls are all for 1 inch diameters and up. The reason for this is that trailers that call for that big of a ball are going to be too heavy for a 1-1/4 inch hitch.
The only solution I would have for you would be to upgrade to a 2 inch hitch like the part # 75132 so that you can go with a ball mount that will accommodate a 2-5/16 inch ball on your 2002 Mercury Mountaineer.... view full answer...
You would need to convert the 4-way to a 7-way so that you can install the brake controller. For that you will want the Brake Controller Install Kit and 7-Way Adapter part # ETBC7. I attached installation instructions and an install video for this product as well. This comes with everything needed to make the conversion and install the controller. There is no brake controller wiring present on your vehicle since it only has the 4-way.
For a brake controller I would recommend the Prodigy... view full answer...
I do have an option for you but I think we first need to verify that we are indeed looking for the correct rise/drop amount in a ball mount. In order to verify that we have the correct rise/drop needs we first need to measure from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube on the trailer hitch and then subtract from this the distance from the ground to the bottom of the coupler on the trailer while level. The above calculations will then give us the correct rise/drop we need... view full answer...
The # C59496 is the recommended powered taillight converter for your Grand Marquis. It does draw the power needed directly from the vehicle battery rather than pulling it through the vehicle's taillight circuits. The direct battery connection provides a more reliable power source, plus it serves to isolate the vehicle wiring from that of the trailer, protecting it from any short circuits.
The 2010 Grand Marquis uses a combined wiring system which combines the brake lamps and turn signals... view full answer...
The Pro-Series weight distribution system # PS49903 comes with 1-1/4 inch diameter hitch ball hole. For a 2 inch ball you would need to add # A-90.
Both the 2-5/16 inch ball and A-90 come with wrench flats so you will be able to use properly sized wrenches to remove/install a ball. If you do not have the tools readily available some auto parts stores will loan out tools. view full answer...
I would recommend the Curt Hitch part # C13587 for your 2004 Mercury Monterey. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch opening confirmed to fit your vehicle that may frame hole enlargement. Drilling doesn't necessarily add anything to a hitch's value, basically it's just an extra step that some hitches require. With this hitch sometimes the vehicles frame holes don't line up for the hitch to attach to so you have to enlarge the hole to compensate for that. The use of any adapter or extension will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your 2002 Mercury Mountaineer by 50 percent. In this situation, you have to go with the lowest capacity, in this case it is the trailer hitch with the reduced tongue weight. Even if the adapter is rated for 6,000 pounds, you will only be able to tow as much as your hitch and vehicle will allow.
To overcome this problem, I recommend installing a larger capacity hitch like the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 75132.... view full answer...
Yes, since your class III hitch has a 2 inch opening, you will be able to use this 24x60 Railed Cargo Carrier for 2 inch Trailer Hitches, part # 63153.
This cargo carrier measures 12-3/4 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the carrier platform. You might want to measure your vehicle from the center of your hitch pin hole out to be sure everything will clear.
This is a great unit with a weight capacity of 500 pounds. You will need to check your vehicle manufacturer recommendations... view full answer...
Sway control is designed to be used in situations where the trailer sways under adverse conditions such as high winds or when large vehicles are passing causing the trailer to become unstable. Sway control also helps if you have to maneuver suddenly. Also if the trailer has a low tongue weight percentage the sway control can help to a point, but a weight distribution system will help more with this situation.
The best solution for sway that is present without the above mentioned adverse... view full answer...
For your 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis the Curt hitch part # 13707 has been confirmed as a fit and would have the towing capacities of 4,000 lbs total trailer weight and 400 lbs tongue weight.
We have suspension enhancements available for your vehicle, but since I don't know the weight of your boats/trailer it's hard to say if they would be necessary. The Firestone part # F4107 has been confirmed as a fit for your vehicle though.
Be sure not to also exceed the towing capacities of your vehicle... view full answer...
The presence of the back-up sensors will not have any bearing on the installation of a hitch. The Curt # 13650 would be an excellent choice that would work well for you. This hitch will fit whether or not your vehicle is equipped with the OEM 1-1/4 inch receiver.
The fact that your Mariner has the back up sensors will mean that you'll need to use the # 118551 trailer wiring harness, if you'll be towing with your Mariner. It's been found that the # 118251 doesn't work on vehicles with the... view full answer...
It sounds like your installed might be describing a universal type-converter that needs to be hardwired into the vehicle.
We offer the Tow Ready Custom Fit Wiring, # 118551, which is a powered unit and requires you to run a power wire to the battery, which helps isolate the vehicle wiring from any short circuits that might occur in the trailer wiring. This harness installs inline with the taillight wiring, and other than having to run the power wire, is a plug-and-play install.

If you plan on carrying either womens, childrens or alternative frame bikes, you may want to check out the Hollywood Racks Adapter Bar # HRBA-PRO. By using this adapter, it will give your bike a level ride and provide bike ground clearance.
