As you are replacing a set of lights with a 2-wire connection like the Custer # CPL001 & # CPL002 with a set of 3-wire like the Optronics # STL8RB & # STL9RB you can simply add the ground wire to the mounting hardware. Regarding the Q2, that will be connected to the reverse light function on your vehicle. You'll have to test for it to find the reverse light and connect the wiring. I do not see any reason to be concerned with the installation of the Tekonsha Voyager Trailer Brake Controller # 39510 on your 1999 Ford-F-150. Since you have the factory wiring for the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter 3035-P the correct wire has already been terminated to the factory plug.

It sounds like your trailer has a separate wiring system and your Miata is a combined system. I recommend adding the Vehicle to Vehicle Tail Light Converter Item # 118158. Personally, I hate the metal junction boxes that manufacturers use so I'd yank all of the wiring out of that one and switch to a junction box like # 3375601101. The separate posts will help you easily organize all your wiring and give you a more secure connection using ring terminals over the wire nuts the manufacturer used. This will also come with rubber plugs to help seal up the box and prevent water from getting in and corroding the wire.

I would start by checking each connector on your T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118266 to ensure that you don't have any bent or damaged pins or any debris in the connectors. Even on manufactured trailers wiring colors can vary so there is no way to say for sure. The only way to know which wire is tied to which function is to trace the wire back. On an SAE standard 7-way the brown wire would be the tail/running lights. On an RV standard it would be the right turn/brake light. Since it is a homemade trailer it could be anything. I recommend tracing the other wires back, not just the brown wire, to see what they are connected to just to make sure you wire it correctly. view full answer...
6-way and 7-way wiring typically use different wire colors by function so there isn't going to be a way to use the color of your wires to install the part # HM48502. Hi Joseph; you don't want to add a 7-way as the wires on your 4-way won't have connections for a 7-way. Your 7 wires are three ground, left turn/stop, right turn/stop, and two taillights. What you'll want to do is use a wishbone style 4-way, the 4-Flat Connector Wishbone Style # W002230.
