What to Do With The 3rd Wire On Trailer Tail Light When Replacing Tail Lights With Only 2 Wires?

Question:

Hi, I have a boar trailer with standard lighting and 2 wires per light GRN/BRN on right and YLW/BRN on left. I purchased LED lights that have the extra wire for ground WHT. Can I just drill a hole on the trailer frame and add a screw to use to attach the the white wire for ground? Will that work or would I have to add wiring to add the ground wire for the circuit? Thanks!

As you are replacing a set of lights with a 2-wire connection like the Custer # CPL001 & # CPL002 with a set of 3-wire like the Optronics # STL8RB & # STL9RB you can simply add the ground wire to the mounting hardware. This is the way I have always done it since the 2 wire lights do it the same way but inside the light assembly housing where you cannot see it. It also saves you from having to drill a hole into steel and add additional hardware to secure the wire.
