Replacing 6-Way of Trailer with 7-Way Wiring Diagram

Question:

I am rewiring a flatbed gooseneck trailer from a 6-way round to the 7-way HM48502. I have a white, black, red, green, yellow and brown wires. Since I don’t have a blue wire, is the brown wire for my electric brakes? When I connect it, the trailer brake controller throws a Short Circuit error. In addition, I don’t have any running lights…what am I missing and overlooking here?

Expert Reply:

6-way and 7-way wiring typically use different wire colors by function so there isn't going to be a way to use the color of your wires to install the part # HM48502. So the best solution I can give you is to use a jumper wire from a 12 volt battery positive post to put voltage on all of the wires on the trailer's wiring so that you can identify all of the circuits and then use the attached diagram by function.
