If your 2017 Ford Escape has a tow package then you'll see a 7-pin round connector around the trailer hitch to plug the Hopkins # 30955 in. If you don't have this package/connector then you'll need the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118715. This will transfer your Escape's light signals through to the trailer. Yes, you will need to use the FORCE button to set this system into Hybrid mode. Once the Patriot is in place and turned on you will use the remote to access to FORCE adjustment screen. Use the left button to lower that setting past 0 until you see the "H" for Hybrid mode, then press "OK" and you're all set!

While we do not have an adapter pre made you can easily create your own by wiring in 3 Load Resistors # P230004A on a 4-Way Extension # HM48145. The resistors will create a larger power draw and confuse your 2023 Ford Escape into thinking they are higher draw lights. The online manual for a 2018 Ford Escape doesn't list that the vehicle can be dolly towed, but states that both front-wheel-drive and 4-wheel-drive models can not be flat towed with all four wheels on the ground. Technically none of the hitches made for the 2022 Ford Escape are designed to fit the PHEV model. However, we do have a review from a customer who successfully installed the etrailer # e89YR on their 2022 PHEV. They did take this to a local installer and said it was a bit more complicated, so it is unknown if any modifications were made. It took about an hour to install the hitch so it doesn't sound like it took any extensive work to make it fit.

The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56329 requires a 10 amp fuse so I'd first make sure you're not putting a lower rated fuse in place. The next step is checking the wiring for any cuts or kinks that could potentially cause a short, but you've already done that. Since you don't have any mounting points you'll have to use a clamp-on style roof rack system. The bases for these style roof racks come with rubber pads to prevent any scratching. For your 2020 Ford Escape I recommend going with a Rhino Rack system which will require the following components:

Hi Bill; I can understand wanting to make sure, and I can tell you the Blue Ox base plate will fit a 2024 Ford Escape Plug-In Hybrid, though no we have not done an install. We have our own team here dedicated specifically to these fits, and I can tell you that Roadmaster has officially verified the same base plate for the '23 fits the '24, and that the only change for the '24 Escape Plug-In Hybrid is that a couple of colors that aren't offered.

Hey Geraldine, yes the Thule Hullavator part # TH898 can install on a Rhino Rack ROC25 roof rack as it can either attach directly to the top channel of the crossbar or use the other set of hardware that can wrap around it. Any adapter like the Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver # 80303 is going to reduce your capacity by 50%. At 175 lbs of tongue weight you're already unable to carry the YZ125 at 195 lbs. You also have to consider the 50 lbs from the weight of the # UF48-979033.
