  • What Brakes With With Prodigy P3 Brake Controller
  • Hey Mike; thanks for the question and you will need electric brakes to go with the Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195. To get the right ones you need to measure the diameter and depth of the drum of your hub. For example it measured 10" x 2-1/4" you would need the Electric Trailer Brakes - 3.5K # TRU36FR. You also need to check your brake mounting flange, as these would require a 4-bolt flange. I have added a link below to our entire selection of electric brakes for you which you can...

  • Can 6,000LB Dexter Trailer Brakes Be Installed On a Dexter 5,200LB Trailer Axle?
  • Yes, the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brakes # 23-458-459 can be used on the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam # 8327820. You will want to pair the brakes with either 2 the 6 on 5-1/2" Hub/Drums # K08-201-9B or 8 on 6-1/2" Hub/Drums # 8-219-4UC3-EZ depending on the bolt pattern you want to use.

  • How To Determine The Correct Replacement Brakes For Your RV/Boat Trailer
  • Hi Isaac, When replacing trailer brakes there's a few things to check to figure out the correct replacement. The first thing I start with usually is the axle capacity. If you can find the axle tag sticker on the axle tube we can use the information on it to determine the capacity. If the axle tag is gone then you can also just measure the hub/drum assembly like I have pictured below. We can then take those measurements to find the correct brake assemblies to fit the hub/drums.

  • axle
  • If your car trailer was built on mobile home axles you are going to have to replace the axles as there aren't braking components that will be made to fit them. You will need to measure the distance between your spring centers, distance from hub face to hub face, and the axle capacity you need.

  • Recommended Replacement Brakes for a 2007 Pace Trailer w/ 15 Inch Rims
  • We sure do! The etrailer Electric Trailer Brakes item # AKEBRK-35 work with 3,500 lbs axles that have a 4 bolt mounting flange. These left and right 10" x 2-1/4" assemblies have rust-resistant, e-coated backing plates that work with 15" wheels. For hubs, I would need to know what size bearings you currently have and also your trailers lug pattern so you don't have to change your wheels. There are two ways to identify the bearings your spindle uses. Wheel bearings are stamped with the...

  • Surge Drum Brake Actuator Solution for Older Trailer that has 4 inch Wide Frame
  • I googled the grease seal number you mentioned and I did find some options online but when I looked up the size it wasn't one that we carry a suitable replacement for. For a coupler solution though you could use the Dexter part # T1607500 which you'd want to weld to the top of your trailer frame. It was not designed to fit over a frame channel so your width being wider than usual wouldn't be a factor.

  • Adding Brakes To A 2004 U-Haul Tow Dolly
  • In order to add brakes to your tow dolly you'd first need to have a brake flange for the brake assembly to mount to. If you remove the wheel you'll be able to see the if there's a brake flange, like you can see on part # TRU74FR, or not. If not, you can get them welded onto the axle but the cost typically exceeds the cost of just replacing an axle because the weld has to be so precise. From there you would need to determine if you want to go with hydraulic or electric brake assemblies....

  • Can Mobile Home Axles be Changed to 6- or 8-Lug Hub & Drum With Brakes
  • Hi Ron, So unfortunately mobile home axles can't be changed out to to different hubs and brakes as they are designed as a single-use axle (getting the mobile home from point A to point B). Meaning they don't have standard spindles for different hubs and drums. You can still get a 6- or 8-lug hub and drum, but you'd have to replace the axle. To do that you will need to know the dimensions of your current axle's hub face to hub face and spring center to spring center; I have added a link...

  • Recommended 6 Lug Axle to Replace a Mobile Home Axle
  • Robert, I suggest swapping the entire axle out with an axle that already has a 6 lug setup like the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # 7461121-EB. I would need to know what size axle you're needing, your hub face to hub face, and spring center to spring center measurements in order to get the ride sized axle.

  • Recommended Replacement Dexter Axle W/ E-Z Lube Spindles for a Axis Products 3.5K Axle
  • Eddie, it sounds like you're looking for the Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # 35545E-ST-EZ-89. This is a 3.5K Dexter axle that has E-Z Lube spindles, with a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt pattern. This axle has a 89" hub face to hub face measurement, 74" spring center to spring center measurement, and a 1 1/16" spindle size.

  • Solution for Replacing Welded-On Trailer Brakes on Old Car Trailer
  • That was enough information right there. If it is welded to the axle a modern replacement won't work. Unless you can find parts at a scrap yard you won't be able to get replacement parts for those brakes to rebuild them either. You will need to replace the axle like I mentioned before. You need the same length axle you have now, which is the hub face to hub face measurement, along with the same capacity. You can try to see if there is an axle tag on there identifying it. If not, it might...

  • Trailer Has A Bent Axle With 82" HF. What Are My Options For Replacing It?
  • Hey William, I am sorry to say that we do not offer an axle with those exact dimensions. Our closes option is the Trailer Axle Beam # e33GR. This axle is rated for 5,200 lbs and has a hub face to hub face (HF) measurement of 86-1/2". The only other option we can offer would be an Axle-Less setup like the Timbren # ASR3500S05 which is a 3,500 lb rated axle-less suspension system. You did not mention the weight capacity of the axle you are needing The Timbren setups are available in several...

  • Would Dexter 3,500 lb Axle Made in 1999 Use Same Hubs as Current
  • Hey Scott, so the braking and hub components of a Dexter 3,500 lb axle made in 1999 would be the same as what's currently used so those components would transfer over. So a bare axle like the part # T3584F-EZ-8974 would work for you but you'd need to double check the spring seat to spring seat dimension you took. If it's really 74-1/2 inch this won't work but if instead it is 74 inches this axle would work. We don't have a 74-1/2 inch version so if this is what you have you'd need to find...

  • Replacement Axle for a 4,400 lbs AL-KO Axle
  • Hey Shane! The closest axle we have to those dimensions is the Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes item # e73SR. It has a 86-1/2" hub face and a spring-center-to-spring-center length of 71-1/2". You may be able to get away with the hub face being slightly longer depending on your fenders but you'll need to use the Spring Seat item # TRSS300 to replace the ones that come with the axle.

  • Solution for Needing Trailer Hubs that Have Non-Standard Spindle
  • Hey David, unfortunately the dimensions you have are not compatible with current hub/drums. The outer bearing dimension being less than .99 inch is the giveaway as nothing at this time has that diameter. This is pretty common for axles as old as what you have now. Best option is going to be an all new axle which would require knowing the axle capacity needed, the distance between the spring seats of your axle, and then distance from hub face to hub face.

  • Replacement for 3,500 lb Lippert Axle With 85" Hub Face Measurement
  • What you read is correct. You have a 3,500 lb Lippert axle with an 85" hub face and a 68-1/2" spring center measurement. I do have a solution, but unfortunately we do not carry a standard axle with these measurements. What I can offer is the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension w Electric Brakes # A35RS545E. This system is universal so it fits any frame width. It would also replace your existing leaf springs and upgrade you to an independent suspension.

  • Can I Increase The Weight Capacity Of An 18' Pace Utility Trailer With Two 3.5K Dexter Torsion Axles
  • Hey Chris, I do have some information that will be helpful for this project. Increasing the weight capacity of a trailer is tricky because every trailer has multiple components with a specific weight rating. Things like axles, hubs, brakes, wheels, tires and even the frame of the trailer itself all are rated for a specific capacity. Since you have 3.5K axles, it stands to reason that the rest of these components are also rated similarly. I will say that generally we do not recommend attempting...

  • Option For Suspension if no 2,000 lb Axle Meets Measurements
  • Hi Jonathan; we do not offer an axle in the dimensions you have, so you have a couple options. One is to have an axle fabricated for you, with the other option being the 2,000 lb Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension w/ Idler Hubs # A20RS545. This is an independent suspension that doesn't use an axle beam, and bolts to the frame.

  • Converting A Trailer With A 5 On 4.5" Hub To A 6 On 5.5" Hub
  • Hey Steve, To replace your hub we'll need to first determine the bearings and seals that fit your spindle. You can look at the face of the bearings and grease seal to see if there's a part number stamped into them still otherwise you'll need to use a digital caliper # PTW80157 and measure points B, C, and D from the guide below. 18" wheels are pretty large for this axle capacity so you might have some clearance issues with the fenders or body of the trailer using this size. Truck tires...

  • Availability of 3,500 lbs Axle with 89" Hub Face and 69-1/4" Spring Seat Dimensions
  • Hey Mike, thanks for reaching out! I don't think it's as much the allowable overhang as much as your trailer just being older and having a unique axle size. You can special order an axle from a trailer shop with the specs you need or you can use one of our Timbren Axle-Less Kits like part # A35RS545E which installs directly to the trailer frame and doesn't need a specific spring-center measurement. The other alternative is to use an axle like the Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes # e43SR...
