I spoke with my contact at Cequent to find out what would happen if the Remote Hand Held Unit were to come unplugged, and he confirmed that the trailer-mounted Power Module would function on the Hand Held Unit's previous settings. The cold side wire of the stop light switch that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed has a full 12 volts.
Using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 will help you find the correct wire to connect your controller to.

In order to install the Redarc Tow-Pro Elite Trailer Brake Controller # RED44FR you will need additional wiring from an authorized dealer. Luckily we already know the parts you will need. The #1J0-972-782 housing (one of these) and #000-979-228 wire/terminal assemblies (two of these) are what you require.

When installing a Tekonsha Prodigy or Tekonsha P-3 Brake Controller, part # 90195, on a 2005 to 2008 Volkswagen Touareg, a relay is needed to prevent an erratic display on the brake controller.
Apparently to activate the lamp out bulb on your vehicles dash a test pulse is run through the brake light output wire. This test pulse will cause problems on the brake controller unless a relay is installed inline.

Most likely the 7-way of your 2015 Volkswagen Tourareg does have the 12 volt accessory circuit active but the best way to tell is to check it with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. The T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118668 is compatible with LED trailer lights so there's nothing to worry about.
