Does Curt Echo Trailer Brake Controller have Dedicated Activators
Question:
I dont trust the speed reliability of my smartphone when it comes to activating my trailer brakes during a sway event. Are there any dedicated activators available for this controller like the tekonsha has?

Expert Reply:
Although the Curt Echo # C51180 does not have any dedicated activators, it will still function your trailer's brakes even if you lose connectivity as it is not dependent on your phone being connected to activate your trailer's brakes.. As you can see by the accompanying cut out of the linked instruction manual, if there is a communication error, the manual brake activation, max output and sensitivity level will not take effect but you will still have brakes.
This controller does require a certain OS for your smart device: 8.0 or newer for Apple and 4.4 or newer for Android. If you do not have that or you do not trust your phone to run at speed and want to ensure you can still use the manual override it would be a good idea to go with a brake controller such as the very highly regarded Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195.
I have added links to video reviews of both brake controllers for you to check out.
