We have two hitch receivers for your 2018 Toyota Prius. They both have a 10/10 difficulty but identical installation methods. The complicated installations come from the type of vehicle you have. I have attached a video and a picture so you can not only see the final results but also understand the complicated install process. The entire rear panel and trim have to be removed but once everything is put back together you get a clean install with the only visible part being the 1 1/4" receiver... view full answer...
There is no set amount the nut needs to be tightened on a friction sway control bar like # 83660. You will need to adjust it as needed. In the instructions, which I have linked for you. Reese states Trailer configurations and loading, road and weather conditions, towing speed, tire condition and pressure, and center of gravity of trailer all affect towing. To get maximum benefits from the sway control assembly, a series of road tests should be taken with the loaded trailer. On subsequent... view full answer...

We haven't had anyone complain that leaving their Rhino Rack Nautic 581 # RR581 mounted on their roof rack caused any issues from the heat and sun but Yakima had a similar carrier that the rubber pad would get really soft and start to deteriorate over time so I wouldn't leave these on indefinitely. How often they should be removed is really based on how often you will be using them. If you're going to be using them quite a bit it would make sense to just leave them on but if you aren't... view full answer...
To tow your Prius, I recommend using the Roadmaster Tow Dolly, part # RM-2050-1. This dolly comes with tail lights, wheel nets and electric brakes, so you should not need to purchase any additional equipment to tow your vehicle. I do recommend checking your owners manual for any specific towing procedures or restrictions before making any purchases.
The trailer wiring harnesses cannot be used in reverse as a tow bar lighting solution. I wish we had a tow bar lighting solution for your... view full answer...
The video you referenced shows the Tekonsha kit part # 118505 install on a 2010 Toyota Prius like yours which is basically the exact same install as the Curt part # C56147 that you have. If there's a Hybrid Error warning light coming on I would suspect the issue is related to the battery wire of the kit. Make sure it's attached to the positive terminal of the battery securely and no exposed wire on this circuit is making contact to anything metal. It's also possible the battery terminal... view full answer...
If you are having trouble installing your hitch mounted bike rack into a trailer hitch receiver, like the Draw-Tite # 24808 for your 2009 Toyota Prius, then I'd first recommend making sure that the receiver is cleaned out and free of debris. If it is clean then there may just be some extra powder coating on the inside. We have had customers who tried filing it out but you can definitely try some WD40 first if you have some handy. view full answer...
To properly install the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 into either a 1-1/4" or a 2" hitch receiver you need to tighten the anti-rattle bolt down until the lock washer sets in place. From the photo you sent in it looks like you actually just need to tighten the anti-rattle bolt down a bit more. Once the lock washer is properly seated the bolt won't move at all and the hitch pin is just there for some extra security.
You can see an example of this in the attached review video starting... view full answer...
What sub model 2018 Toyota Prius do you have? The Yakima FullBack 3 Bike Rack # Y02633 is confirmed to fit the base model and the Prius c if it doesn't have a spoiler. If you have the Prius Prime then we actually don't have a fit.
Also, what middle band are you referring to? The FullBack only has 4 straps so there wouldn't be a middle set of straps or hooks. If you could let me know and possibly send a picture I can try to help you determine why you are having troubles fitting your vehicle. view full answer...
The hitch you need for your Toyota Prius depends on the style of Prius you own. I would first recommend checking either with your owner's manual or with your dealership to find what the towing and tongue weight capacity is for your vehicle.
For the Prius or Prius Plug-In Hybrid, I would recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C11276. This is a Class l hitch with a 1-1/4 in receiver. It has a towing capacity of 2000 lbs and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs.

The item you selected, Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118505, plugs in-line with the vehicles tail light connectors. You will need to access the wiring behind the tail light by removing the plastic trim pieces inside the vehicle. The connector with the Yellow wire will connect to the drivers side tail light harness.
Then, you will need to connect the White wire which is the ground to a clean metal surface. You can use an existing bolt to connect the ground wire.
Then, you... view full answer...
Raising your 2017 Toyota Prius off the ground is not going to be necessary to install the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24966. I have linked a video below which does show the installation process and you can see how difficult some of the fasteners are to reach so it will make it easier to access if you are able to raise the rear of your car. Rather than using jack stands you can use Ramps # FT11909MI as then you will only need to back your car onto the ramps rather than... view full answer...

To install the Thule K-Summit Tire Chains like # TH02230K23, you will not have to jack up the car for installation. These chains are self-centering and self-tensioning. You will not have to remove the lug nut when attaching the center part of the chains. This set comes with a 17mm and 19mm attachment piece that fits over the lug nut.
We actually have a video showing how these chains work. I have provided a link to the video for you to view. I have also included a link to the Thule tire... view full answer...
Installing the Thule K-Summit snow chains could not be easier. The vehicle does not need to be jacked or lifted in any way, and no lug nuts need to be removed. Installation involves simply draping the chains around the tire, attaching the sleeve and bolt over one of the lug nuts and ratcheting the chains into place. The chains will center themselves as you drive.
We have an excellent video that outlines all of these steps, you can view it by clicking the link I have provided. view full answer...
It might be possible to install the Curt hitch part # E-3S in theory to the rear bumper beam of your 2011 Toyota Prius but this is not the intended application for this hitch and I am sure Toyota would also recommend against this as well. The bumper beam appears to not be compatible with this either.
We have 2 inch hitches that fit your vehicle with the EcoHitch part # 306-X7178 though which I would recommend highly if you were looking for something safe for both the vehicle and whatever... view full answer...
The Stromberg Carlson Bike Bunk Trailer-Mounted Bike Rack Carrier for A-Frame Trailers - 2"-100 lbs # CC-275 can be customized to have shorter supports if desired, but that would void your warranty. There is enough space that you can cut them down 6 inches if that is your desire.
I do recommend looking at all of the possible issue from cutting them down prior to doing so. I've attached a video review of the product to assist. view full answer...

If you're not comfortable installing the EcoHitch # 306-X7196 yourself on your 2008 Toyota Prius, your best bet would be to find an RV dealer with a service department; a body shop might also be able to perform this service for you but RV shops typically are a bit more well versed in the installation of hitches. The EcoHitch is a great choice for your 2008 Prius and the 2" receiver is ideal for a\your Kuat bike rack. view full answer...
