In order to add a 7 way connector to your 2009 Suzuki Equator, you can simply use the # ETBC7, which will utilize your existing 4 way. You won't need to replace the existing harness, but once you plug it in to the ETBC7 you'll need to run a wire to your battery to supply 12v power and one to your brake controller to complete all of the circuits on the 7 way connector. I reached out to the manufacturer and the Putco Tailgate Cap - Stainless Steel # P51614P measures 50.25 inches long. He didn't have a width and we don't have one to measure ourselves so all I can give you is that he says it will cover the top side completely.
