There are a couple places you can check to find out the axle info you are looking for. If you check the plate up near the coupler of the trailer that has the VIN listed the axle brand/capacity would be listed there. Also it can be listed on a similar plate on the axle itself.

Yes, you can run a 10-gauge wire (which will have blue insulation) from the front of the trailer to one of the trailer brakes. If you need 10-gauge wiring and shrink butt connectors, that is the # 10-1-1 along with the # 05732-2. This will be your power wire. Connect the power wire to the non-grounded wire on one of the brakes, then run another wire from the power wire on this brake to the brake on the other side of the axle.
